I believe that some of the repubs are so far from reality and they are living in the 1920's 30's and40's. Some don't have cable and don't see or interact with other races and cultures so they believe that everyone is like them and thinks like them. This country is so diverse now that you can't go back to leave it to beaver world of father knows best. The repubs who hate gov use gov to experiment with peoples lives in this country and others and then after they create a monster they want everyone to go into these fictional boxes, that they have in their minds.
