I GATHER MY STRENGTH AND HAVE HOPE

IN the summer of 2004 when I was nine years old, I noticed that my eye sight
was changing. I was scared at first because we did not know why, and sun light
really hurt my eyes. Then after a long month of seeing different doctor's. We
knew that surgery would help me save some eye sight ,we just did not know
how much. Before the surgery I found the strength to have hope through my
family and God. That what ever the out come was, God knew what he was
doing. I had the surgery in October 2004. After my surgery I lost most of my
sight in one eye, I just see a blurr. And the other eye I see some, but everyday I
live with the fact that I could lose it all. I still thank God everyday for what eye
sight that I have left. I can not worry about the what if's or when.

I have special glasses that I use to see large print. My mom took me to our local
library to check out some large print books. There was not a very good
selection in my reading level. At first I was upset. Then after talking to my
Liberian, I found out how hard it was to receive money for books. I then knew
that I needed to help, not just myself but for others too. I realised that if I had
this problem, I was sure other people did to.

I started raising money for our local library. My first goal was to raise enough
money for 200 books, that would come to around $4,000.00 dollars. After I
reached my goal, I donated twelve inches of my hair to a child that had gone
through chemotherapy. I had never gotten a hair cut before, but I was excited
about helping others.
