<> ~ 6:15 pm CST -- Kevin Phillips on oil, debt, and theocracy Kevin Phillips returns to The Monitor to discuss his new book today.
The book, which the New York Times Book Review called "extensively researched and frighteningly persuasive," is "American Theocracy: The Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the 21st Century."
Kevin Phillips is a respected political commentator and author of a dozen books. He got his start early: by age 27, had served as the chief elections and voting patterns analyst for the 1968 Nixon campaign. He served in the Nixon administration as a political strategist.
More recently, Phillips has become an ex-Republican. He is deeply critical of the Bush family in his 2004 book, "American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush." In that book, he delved into four generations of the Bush clan's links to finance, oil and energy, the military industrial complex, and the CIA/NSA.
In 1982, the Wall Street Journal described him as “the leading conservative electoral analyst -- the man who invented the Sun Belt, named the New Right, and prophesied ‘The Emerging Republican Majority’ in 1969.” He has been a radio and TV commentator (including appearances on Bill Moyers' NOW program), and is now a registered independent.
