1. i have no problem..

...with immigrants coming to this country to work. I think they should get a fair wage, like we all should. This country was built by immigrants, and I think it will continue to be.

3. this issue is getting more and more personal
although my father's family has lived in texas since it was mexico (hence my mexican-american heritage), my mother is the only "wetback" in the family (a permanent resident with british nationality). that's why this recent hullaballo regarding specifically mexican immigration really gets to me. it is patently racist. similar to the way italians and irish were treated not so long ago. how soon people forget.

and the "nation of laws" theme is getting harder to choke on. segregation was legal at one time, slavery was fucking legal, i'm sure some of these "law and order" types probably would not have had enough tissue to wipe the spittle from their chins if they had been alive at the time to see "uppity blacks" dare to acquire civil rights.

2. La Raza and the Catholic church are shafting undocumented workers
Championing the rights of workers, with not a word to be said about the next several million who'll be competing for THEIR jobs.

Shameless, profit-making pandering.
And once again, on the backs of labor.
