My Father, the Illegal Immigration Non-Crusader

My father and I were arguing about politics today and he looked me in the face and said, "The #1 issue this country faces is illegal immigration." And I responded, "Are you sure about that? More important than war? More important than taxes? More important than health care? More important than global warming?"

He said "Yes."

And he's a democrat, has been all his life.

And as far as I know, he's never had his job stolen by an illegal immigrant.

And when he said, "I'm not a racist", that was followed a few minutes later by, "And you know the way those Mexicans breed, 20 million will be 200 million in a few years."

And then he started ranting how he won't support Senator Durbin or Obama or any democrat for reelection again if they vote for an immigration bill he doesn't approve of. I said, "So you're going to become a one-issue voter? You'd rather the Republicans gain senate seats, or keep the presidency for the next 8 or more years, just because of an issue that doesn't even effect you?"

He said "Yes."

I just don't get it.
