The 60 Minutes Story on Orphaned Elephants Was a HEARTBREAKER!!!!
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 08:12 PM by leftchick
Bob Simon did a segment on the wonderful work at the David Sheldrick Wildlife trust in Kenya. It made me cry like I have not in ages. These people do wonderful work and the lives they save are much like human lives....

Kamboyo, who was found with his legs bound...

Read Kamboyo's story of a saved baby elephant here...

3. True but it also warmed my heart at the same time.
I am glad that there are some people left in the world that are decent enough to take care of these animals.

4. It made me want to leave here and join them
I would love to help them out with more than money. It was cool to see how they vet the future keepers.

5. When I saw the tiger movie Two Borthers...
I contacted www.savechinastigers.org and adopted a tiger. Too my surprise they were more than happy to have my fifteen dollars a month. Maybe there is a website for endangered elephants that you can look into?

6. Oh, gawd, anything with elephants makes me cry.
They are such amazing creatures ... The repukes do not deserve to have that creature as their symbol.

7. that is the biggest of ironies
elephants are so sensitive of each others feelings. They have empathy! Something totaly lacking in any repuke!

11. Most of us cannot even imagine
the spiritual reward of giving ones life to a higher purpose. Simply by watching the news segment our hearts were stirred towards a more compassionate path. Imagine the gift of working there.

What a great story....those elephants were amazing and so were the people caring for them...what a contrast to the previous story on torture and murder of an Iraqi General in US Custody.

The woman who runs this orphanage/rescue and the people who are the caretakers of the baby elephants are truly wonderful. I thought how sweet that was to watch them playing with them, feeding them, and even sleeping in the same stall with them at night. I loved how they would touch the humans and also that they never forget someones scent and how they connect with the humans.

I loved the description of how the elephants embody all of the greatest qualities we humans have and none of the bad....

Tell me again how the GOP can be represented by the symbol of the elephant? That's just plain wrong!
