So, a little bird tells me 6/7/06 is the date for the nuke war on Iran.
Actually several little birds all cheeped in with the same information. (Funny, no, that Ann Coulter's book is released the day before?)

Do you think it's likely?

I do.

The same little bird tells me that there will be a MAJOR crackdown on dissent near that date. Not on terrorism. On freedom of speech.

Do you think it's likely?

I do.

Do you intend to shut up to save your skin?

I don't.

Let them kill me first, if that is what is going to happen, because I wouldn't want to live in a world like that.

I don't think this'll fly with the increasing number of people waking up and fighting back. Regardless, it canNOT come to pass.

Honestly, I don't think the US public is going to support that now, not that they ever would have. But, I think the time when we would have seen the most support for something so extreme has long past. I don't think it would be wise of Bush to start a new war when the current one is thought of as a mistake by most people.

36. Because everything is political
Starting yet another war would be political suicide. I know everybody's going to bust out an argument about voting fraud, but Diebold machines aren't everywhere and you can't steal the election when it's glaringly obvious everyone hates you (as it would be if we nuke Iran or anybody else). This isn't just about Presidential elections, where a little vote fraud in one state can get you a long way... I'm talking about the House and the Senate not just now but for years to come.

They might be evil, but they're not dumb.

Wouldn't that provide for some, er, dissincentive to Bush? He's buddy buddy with the Chinese especially these days, after all didn't he just approve a no-bid contract to one of their port companies to watch for nukes in cargo?

Sounds like Bush is blustering as much as those in Iran. Two mad dogs barking at each other.

Our democratic government, wealth and future prosperity in exchange for cooperation with his next illegal invasion?

Look how much of our wealth he's already bartered away for Iraq - a quick glance at our national debt will show you the price tag for all those missing billions in cash sent to Iraq.

55. Nice.
First, I don't make things up.

Second, though I cannot know how credible these sources are, the fact that the same information came from more than one gives me just a little more faith in it.

Third, when you run a media outlet, people tell you stuff. A lot of it is bogus. Some small bits of it are true. Sy Hersh's disclosures and this information together gives me more than a suspicion that it might be true.

Fourth, I've been wrong before, and I hope I'm wrong now.

Fifth, I don't insult what you post. Why do you think it is OK to insult me personally for what I post?

63. Ya know,
OP never claimed to have 'sources so inside that he knows the exact date'. He said he had heard this from some sources and asked what we thought. He never screamed that the sky is falling, or that they were impeccable sources.

Those of us who know ben know of his many associates... people with sources... whether those sources are accurate or inaccurate, we don't know, and he does not claim to know either. An interesting question was posed in the OP, that if it were to happen, would you be quiet?

To accuse fear mongering is ridiculous, as the post wasn't much different from Sy Hersch or a whole bunch of articles all over the boards for days. "Cloak and Dagger"?! Because his sources say this? I suppose you regard much of what is said on DU as "Cloak and Dagger", then, just because it hasn't been PROVEN beyond a doubt yet?

OP has credibility with a great portion of DUers, and his post did not represent that he had any further info than that it was what he was told. Take it or leave it, without the disparaging remarks.

82. Agreed!
Who is the poster, anyway? And if He had that info, dont you think other people, with a bit more influence would also have it? And to say "a little birdie told me" in an anonymous post is just a bit irresponsible.

123. well, I feel sorry for you if they do bomb on your B-day
cause they started bombing Iraq on my Birthday--and it wasn't a happy B-day after that. And every B-day since then, I think about when they started bombing, watching it on TV at the Pizza Parlor, leaving with tears in my eyes. It was the night of 03/19, but 03/20 in Iraq. I'll never forget.

62. What's sad is my brother and I talked about this as a horrible joke...
We got that email about the date time thing last week - "On April 5th, 2006 at 1:02:03 it's 4/5/6 1.2.3, blah blah blah..." We were joking about how that was happening during our birthday week (his is Apr 5th and I'm Apr 7, a yr apart) but that we were glad we didn't have a birthday on Jun 6 this year.

Now, with the Hersch article out, I wouldn't put it past these idiots to do something with 'religious significance' to hurry along their rapture...

It's sad and it's sick... and I hope you are wrong benburch, but I won't be surprised... Peace.

and I, for one, listen to what you say more carefully than I do the average poster. I trust that you're not just flapping your lips.

Well... I hope you're wrong!

65. I really hope I am wrong.
I can only report what people tell me, though, as I have no privileged position to know this information first hand.

But this all fits in what we have been hearing for months now, and with recent disclosures, so I have more faith in it than just hearsay. And I hope that by telling people what I have heard I can get somebody, somewhere to take necessary actions that might avert this war.

Iran Reaches Key Step in Nuclear Process

snip-
"TEHRAN, Iran -Iran has successfully enriched uranium for the first time, a major development in its fuel cycle technology, news agencies quoted former President Hashemi Rafsanjani as saying Tuesday.

Current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad added that Iran "will soon join the club of countries with nuclear technology."

The U.N. Security Council has demanded that Iran stop all uranium enrichment activity by April 28. Iran has rejected the demand, saying it has a right to develop the process."

Edited for clarity..

my little bird who sings from the top of my roof told me the other day that he was a blue jay and when i looked him dead in the eye and said no he wasn't he then tried to say he was a cardinal and when that didn't work he tried pine warbler

he is just a mockingbird repeating what he has heard, i can see his beak move when he says it

stop spreading rumors

stop spreading hysteria

if you really want to give people courage to stand for what they believe, it's pretty simple really -- stop spreading rumors

if you just want to bloviate abt how you stood up to the threat of nuclear way by spreading rumors, well, fine, it's abt feeling good abt yourself, it isn't abt effective action

but if you want to be effective at giving people heart stop spreading rumors!

Not that I want this to happen, I don't. But enough freepers are laughing at us because someone posted the exact date there was going to be a draft last year, and the exact date the US was going to invade Iran last year. Neither happened. I don't want us to become a laughingstock because of posts like yours. DU is highly respected. I'd like to keep it that way.

DU's reputation, no matter what that may be, is NOT worth the lives of thousands or millions. I hope fervently that Ben is wrong. Anyway, anyone that is stocking up on foodstuffs in their underground shelter based on Ben's "little birdies" is off their rocker. And I say that with the utmost respect and gratitude to Ben, not the least for the Malloy downloads I partake of when I'm up to it.

If Bush really did start a nuke shooting war in Iran, the one bright spot might be that it would put an end to the rest of the world's silence in response to the US's wanton aggression against weaker nations.

Either way, I'm glad I am no longer a resident of what was once the United States.

although that's not to say that this is/isn't a realistic date. If there is a degree of truth then I would think that the rhetoric coming out of the UN over the this and specifically the SC (namely China) will be sending a rather harshly worded message to this admin about the ramifications of this.
