The past week in Afghanistan, a briefing.

There's been a second attack on the coalition base in Lashkar Gah last week. The article mentions that this was an Al-Qaeda operation funded with Taliban drug money. Three Americans were injured while the British are stepping up their NATO 'peacekeeping' presence. Also, four German soldiers were injured in a separate attack in the Northern section of that country.

A Canadian citizen of Afghan heritage is on trial in Guantanamo Bay for killing a US serviceman when he was 15 years old. There seems to be much confusion in the war crimes tribunal process as the defendant's frustrated military lawyer, Lt. Col. Colby Vokey reiterates:

snip
Vokey retorted that the tribunal rules were unclear and not based on any legal framework, a common complaint from military lawyers assigned to defend the 10 Guantanamo prisoners charged before the tribunals.

"There's no precedent here," Vokey fumed. "I don't know what rule to look to. I don't know what law to look to."

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is in India this week seeking aid from that government. Both, Karzai and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh agree that terrorism is a global concern and are working with Pakistan to allow Indian aid shipments to pass through that country.

Another American professional football player recalls his Afghan experience while serving in the Air Force.

And now for the best part, it appears locals that have been hired to work at US bases have been stealing items and selling them at the local bazaars. Unfortunately, some of the items stolen are computer drives from US military computers that contain sensitive information.

snip
No more than 200 yards from the main gate of the sprawling U.S. base here, stolen computer drives containing classified military assessments of enemy targets, names of corrupt Afghan officials and descriptions of American defenses are on sale in the local bazaar.

Well, that's all I have time to find for today. Stay tuned to this channel for the Taliban are back!
