How does a man get "discredited" because his wife works at the CIA?
How does an ambassador to African nations and to Iraq for his entire career get "discredited" because his wife works at the CIA? How does a man who is a lifelong Republican get "discredited" because his wife mentioned him as a candidate to carry out a certain task?

I, along with others, have long maintained that the "discrediting" of Joe Wilson is complete nonsense as the motive for outing Brewster Jennings and Valerie Plame. The truth is coming in the corporate media now. It has been out at DU for years.

PLEASE urge everyone to stop parroting the "discredit Joe Wilson" nonsense.

1. Still makes sense to me.
If they argue Wilson was unqualified, there has to be some reason why the CIA chose him to go to Africa. That it was nepotism provides an answer. Not a good answer, but these nutbag slimers work with what they have.

3. what's beautifully ironic is that they, of all people, thought CRONYISM
was a useful smear.

7. When the repubs want to find a smear, they get inspiration from mirrors.
Kerry was a draft dodging coward.

Wilson practiced cronyism.

And of course, all of you are playing politics with national security.

4. It does to me, too, and it wasn't JUST discrediting, it was flat-out
mean, shitty, PUNISHMENT. That outing caused PAIN to that family. And those asshats in the WH aren't shy about hurting people. Look what they did to McCain in Carolina....

2. They were attempting to paint his trip as a boondoogle.
A bullshit trip, set up by a power-seeking, conniving wife and, therefore, of little value for validating the accusations of Roverian book cooking.

5. That's the funny part. Don't we ALL dream of going to Niger?
Joe Wilson must have thought he'd hit the luxury jackpot, getting that wonderful assignment!

8. Niger sounds like a great vacation spot!
Niger became independent from France in 1960 and experienced single-party and military rule until 1991, when Gen. Ali SAIBOU was forced by public pressure to allow multiparty elections, which resulted in a democratic government in 1993. Political infighting brought the government to a standstill and in 1996 led to a coup by Col. Ibrahim BARE. In 1999 BARE was killed in a coup by military officers who promptly restored democratic rule and held elections that brought Mamadou TANDJA to power in December of that year. TANDJA was reelected in 2004.

Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world with minimal government services and insufficient funds to develop its resource base. The largely agrarian and subsistence-based economy is frequently disrupted by extended droughts common to the Sahel region of Africa.

11. The fact it's completely irrational and gratuitous ADDS to the threat.
Let's everyone consider the following scenario when they want to blow a whistle.

"But, but, but, my family has nothing to do with this!"

"Shoulda thought of that before you fucked with us."

10. Moreover
part of her job was to prevent Iran from getting nukes-- so of course she had to be eliminated for the neocons to excuse their next pre-emptive war.

13. Outing Brewster Jennings is what they should have to answer for
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 09:09 AM by Sinti
if I'm playing with matches and gasoline outside a building and it burns down, I'm guilty of bad judgment, possibly pyromania, but I'll have to answer for arson.

It takes years to develop these kinds of operations, building contacts and trust. They'll replace it now with true believers and yes-men from Porter Goss' reformed CIA... what more could they ask for.
