Poll question: Would you vote for Hillary if she was the democratic nom?
Let's get past the Hillary bashing and be realistic. If you had to choose her between her or some repuke nominee, would you vote for her?

because that would be a losing ticket.

however, I wish this poll didn't reinforce a mistaken notion that objecting to her as a nominee is the same as voting republican.

21. Well, running a losing candidate will also hand it to the republican.
so you should figure that in with the rest of your snark.

Ms. Clinton will lose if she runs. That's the political reality. She is too reviled by right wingers to get enough crossover votes and only tepidly approved by left leaning antiwar dems. That leaves ONLY "centrist" and right leaning dems, which is not enough to elect her.
also, just like the gay marriage amendment got repubs out in droves to vote, too many of them Really, really hate Ms. Clinton so you can be sure repub voting percentages will be higher.

I'm sorry to disappoint, but I will always vote for the democrat but I also think pushing Ms. Clinton as our nominee is going to be disastrous.

and, further, I frankly do not appreciate the implication that unless we fully support one nominee without question before the primary, we are agents of republicans.

I can tell you where to shove that notion, if you'd like.

Any Democrat in the WH would be a godsend at this time. Any Democrat, even Lieberman, would be a thousand times better than the most acceptable Republican, if there is such a thing.

BTW, Hillary would make a fine president, IMO, so it's not like it would be tough for me to support her.

But will she want to be President? She would if victorious be the President who is left with the thankless task of bringing the troops home. And let's not forget, if a WOMAN president does that, it will set the table back on women in the white House by 25 years. Because people will interpret her actions thusly, If Hillary, that ferocious bee-otch can't stomach the hard decisions of war, what woman can?

Who wants to inherit *'s messes is the real question?

of the "kingmakers" of the Democratic party -- give Democrats no real choice. Hillary or the GOP Devil. Not much of a genuine choice, imo.

I'm 46 years old -- I have been a member of the Democratic party and a voter since I was 18.

At some point you become tired of the blackmail and of voting for the lesser of the two evils -- instead, you crave the freedom to vote for the person you truly feel would make the best choice for your country.

I have said it here before: 2008 is my "tough love" year for the Democrats. Either we get a candidate that is forward thinking and willing to stand up for what is right or I will be forced to write in the Democratic candidate of my choice.

I can't keep voting for the person with the "D" after their name if they do not reflect the values and goals I think are best for our country. I just can't do it anymore and live with myself.

37. I'm not dumb - quite the opposite.
See, in my purplish-red state, if she's the nominee, she'll lose by more than 20 percentage points, so I might as well write-in the best choice who isn't on the ticket. It won't make one hill of beans difference to the electoral college vote in my state (if she's the nominee). Now, if some other Dem - like Clark or Warner (whom I'm tepid at best about) or Feingold is the nominee - they might actually FLIP my red state to blue, so I'll drop my hat in that bucket.

It's not misogyny, either. It's just that it's Hillary Clinton. Any other woman might have a better chance.

Hillary would be the leader of our party, the Repuke nominee would not.

I don't want Hillary as the leader of our party. She's a DINO, the ultimate insider, and a corporate and big money sycophant.

I'm torn wheter my 2008 involement is better spent assisting a "(Insert real democrat here) 2008" or a "Stop Hillary 2008" campaign.

The DLC had thier "Anybody but Dean 2004" campaign, so why shoudln't the people have thier "Anyone but DLC" campaign?

39. When November 08 comes I'll be casting a vote for the Democratic ticket
even if my first choice of candidates is not the nominee.

I'm in a line that believes that the Republicans need to be spanked and spanked hard and spanked in as many states as possible. I'll be volunteering time and cash to help that get done.

My personal preferences for how the party should be run, or how the universe should be run, often run contrary to how things actually are. Senator Clinton isn't my first choice. But against the likely GOP field, I am reminded that she is intelligent, accomplished, perceptive, and well-aligned. She gleams next to THE CAT BUTCHER, sell-out McCain, impudent Romney, cement-head Allen, smarmy Giuliani, pathetic Pataki, walking dildo Bill Owen, mental case Sam Brown, and deep-fried Machiavelli Haley Barbour, and so on down the list.

Yeah. If she's our nominee, she's got my vote.

41. A POX ON YOUR HOUSE.
To anyone who would vote other rather than support HRC should she be nominated.

I am no great fan, and I would probably vote for someone else during a primary. BUT I will VOTE for any Democrat my party stand ups in November against any republican.

Greens and true Naderites are welcome to vote for the candidate, but a vote against HRC for any other reason than you love your guy and honestly think they would do a better job than HRC, is simply asinine and politically immature.

Its folks like you, continually in protest mode, continually post that cost us serious voes in the last general two general elections and are as responsible as Diebold for giving us the idiot in the White House.

You are than welcome to vote your conscience. That is your God-given right. But I have little use for folks who in the name of protesting Democratic leadership will vote for an also-ran in a state where every vote is critical.

Before you flame...Listen to what I said.. I have not problem with Green Voters and Naderites voting for their guys because they like what they have to say. It is only the Dems out there who vote for also-rans because they disagree with the nominee on minor points.

Not my first choice, probably not my second or third, but we could do a whole lot worse than a Hillary Clinton presidency. That would be a welcome problem. I'm open to the possibility that her Presidency could attempt to complete the unfinished progressive work of the first two years of the Clinton presidency rather than the Dick Morris crap.

Is there a scenario where I might not vote for Hillary, yeah but that's not likely.

The fact she leads the polls as top Democratic contender tells you two things:

She's a hell of a lot better than what most people on this forum give her credit for, and

The rest of our list of candidates is nothing to write home to mama about.

Until someone else comes out of the woodwork who can wow us all, Hillary it will be, like her or not. It's not her fault our field of Democratic contenders is subpar at best.

The base supports the party. That's what the base does.

Does the party take the base for granted? Yes.

Does the party alienate some portions of the base? Yes. But those portions are no longer the base.

Those who won't support the party's nominee can call me a DINO, a DLCer or whatever the fuck else makes them happy. But if you won't support the party, STOP CALLING YOURSELF THE BASE.
