The Democrats need a Kimo Von Oelhoffen

Yesterday in a Cincinnati Bengals vs Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game Pittsburg knew it needed to shut down Carson Palmer in order to beat the Bengals. On the first pass play of the game for the Bengals a nosegaurd by the name of Kimo Von Oelhoffen had heavily damaged the Bengals chances for winning their first playoff game in 15 years. Kimo Von Oelhoffen, two to three seconds after the ball was thrown, dove head first into Carson Palmer's knee, tearing Palmers ACL ending his pro bowl season right there. The Bengals were then forced to play a rusty, marginal Jon Kitna which diminshed their offense and allowed to the Steelers to win the game.

Being a Bengals' fan I was(and still am) very pissed at the Steelers for playing so dirty. But on the other hand I realized that the Democratic party needs a Kimo Von Oelhoffen. Someone who right at the beginning of the election cycle cripples the Republican spin machine and sets the agenda right off the bat, not the other way around. Make the policy MAD(Mutual Assured Destruction)in which there Karl Rove will play nice assuring that our "Kimo" will play nice too.


If Steeler fans don't like this thread then they can just hide it.

1) Look at the replay and you'll see he was blocked to the ground, and when he rolled, he wound up on Carson's leg. He didn't dive into Palmer

2) I don't think Kimo Von Oelhoffen is that kind of player to do such a thing intentionally. In the many years I have been watching him play I have never seen him take a cheap shot. Ever.

As a football fan and Pittsburgh fan, I felt really bad about that play. You never want to see a player go out with an injury, and especially a knee injury. That one reminded me a little of Joe Theisman. Hopefully Palmer comes back from this in the fall. He is an awesome QB.

As for the Dems, perhaps something more like the Bus...Legs contantly moving, tough to bring down.

he didn't get called on it by the refs. Maybe Palmer was trying to get a roughing the passer penalty and it backfired on him? Why didn't he move out of the way? Did you see Kimo's reaction after he did it? Was he just acting? Don't think so.

Was watching ESPN coverage of the weekend's playoff games this afternoon and some commentators agreed that it was an intentional takedown, even if it was not the defensive player's intention to cripple. They still felt he put his shoulder into Palmer's knee, then grabbed and twisted it -- which is what he could have avoided doing.

Nevertheless, if the plan was to take Palmer (and the Bengals) out of the game, the strategy worked. Perhaps it's time for the Dems to cut some Repukes off at the knees, eh? Well, Delay could be considered the GOP QB, couldn't he? That's one main man down for corruption. So who's the backup?

As an aside, if I were Indy I'd make sure the Steelers didn't get anywhere near Manning's knees. ;-)

Krumrie (whinces) was by far the worst injury I have ever seen on TV. Theisman's was bad but Krumrie's was gastly.

It wasn't intentional. There is absolutely no evidence which would indicate that it was. This type of thing happens. He was blocked into Palmer and considering he was headed upfield TOWARD Palmer, It's not suprising that he was going head first. He used to play for the Bungles....did you think he was so horrible then? He's never been accussed of playing dirty before. It was an accident. He wasn't some John Chaney "goon" sent out there to hurt the prized QB. And accussing the guy of doing so, simply because you're pissed off about losing, is ridiculous.

But I do agree that we need someone hard headed.....Howard Dean never holds back. I like his style.

Kimo is not THAT DUDE. He didn't do it intentionally and after the game expressed remorse for the incident.

If it was Joey Porter, you might have a case. ;)

But Kimo isn't that guy. His head was down because he was being blocked into Palmer. He grabbed on to what he could as he could not see the pass was underway. It was a clean hit. Everyone outside of Cincy on ESPN, in the papers, in the NFL agrees.

I'm sorry and HE'S sorry, he said as much. He even stayed with Palmer until help came.

It's a rough sport. Palmer would be the first to tell you that.

Van Oelhoffen did not intentionally dive head first - he fell into Palmer and has been very outspoken since with apologies for hurting him so badly. Van Oelhoffen is not a dirty player and the play itself was not dirty.
