The second the mushroom cloud rises...we rise and head for DC.
I want to see a solemn vow from everyone here at DU, and from any and all concerned people across this nation.

I would love to think that cooler heads will prevail, and that our government would never do such a thing nowadays, but knowing that the Bush regime holds itself accountable to no laws and to no sense of decency, I have to think it's possible if not likely that George Bush WILL start a war with Iran, and WILL use nuclear weapons in the attack.

We cannot stand for this.

I want a vow from everyone here, and everyone across this nation, that if Bush does this horrible act, we will not stand for it.

I want the world to know that if Bush commits this horrible crime against humanity, he does it without the support of the American People, and against our will.

I want a promise that as soon as word gets to you that Bush has dropped a nuclear bomb on Iran, that we will go to Washington to force his removal.

As soon as we find out that a nuclear strike has been launched, close your businesses. Leave your schools. Make your way as fast as you can to Washington DC. Make signs on the way. Chant slogans as you travel. Surround the White House and demonstrate around the clock. Surround the Congress and hold them accountable for not holding Bush accountable. Jam the streets of the capitol, keep anything from getting done until the criminal is dealt with.

I'm not talking about our usual little feel-good demonstrations, like in the past. I'm not talking about an ANSWR rally. I'm talking about a preaceful revolt in the mold of the Orange Revolution. I'm talking about forcing a war criminal, which there can be no doubt he will be if he launches a nuclear strike against Iran on flimsy evidence, from office.

I'm talking about the survival of our nation if not our entire world.

Please promise me that all apathy will be set aside. If the smoking gun of Bush's criminality IS a mushroom cloud, then we must put an end to this criminal enterprise once and for all. If Bush does this, promise me you will rise with me and join me.

Because if we get to that point, nothing else will matter, anyhow.

isn't that a little late for the Iranians and their neighbors who will die in the 100,000s or millions?

10. Maybe something is needed right now.
Something that will make them realize what the people will do if he takes such a step.

And that's why I'll be doing whatever I can to cross a border into Canada or Mexico by whatever legal or illegal means necessary, even though that quest may be fruitless, fatal, or both.

Sorry, but the moment the mushroom cloud rises, America is forever dead, dead, dead. And unless I take positive action within the first 24 hours -- nay, the first six hours -- I will be dead, dead, dead as well, either in whatever retaliation occurs, or because I come to the realization that I might as well end it all right then and there.

And no, I'm not trying to be overly dramatic here -- them's the facts.

On edit: Unless, of course, the fair state of California immediately posts border guards and declares that it is no longer part of the United States. Then, maybe just maybe, California might have a small chance at survival of some type. I direct you to Streiber and Kunetka's chilling 1984 novel Warday for an image of what a post-"limited" nuclear war California might look like.

13. If the United States uses nuclear weapons again, anywhere, the
world is done for. Because we have not used them since the two horrible "demonstrations", no one else has. Once we say yes, then the destruction has begun and is unstoppable. Anyone who believes tactical nuclear weapons can be regarded as just the next in a line of more and more sophisticated weaponry, has yet to comprehend the physical and emotional destruction they produce.

The scientists at the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs have known this for decades. These individual scientists have had the "ear" of their country's political and military leaders since shortly after WWII and are probably responsible for the non-use of nuclear weapons to date.

We need to immediately gather any influence anyone has to PREVENT this first-use. Although I would join you in a minute because we must, by the time the cloud rises, it will be too late. This is the issue of our lifetime and always has been, Peace.

15. I can't manage it physically
but I will make this promise. I will be at the bus stop (probably on the FSU campus somewhere) with sandwiches, phone cards and spending cash. I don't have a lot, but I'll do everything I can on my end to see that younger folks get there safely and well fed. Cuz that's what grannies do.

18. I think the Netherlands is in the wind
current for ME fallout.

So maybe DC is not the place. Maybe we'd have better luck at our state capitols. And a huge strike, etc.

I'm thinking more tactical nukes than ICBM's. I don't think even Bush has the cajones for that.
