I got a free Jesus DVD in the mail!
Apparently everyone's getting them in my neighborhood. It says, "This DVD was mailed to homes in your area as a gift from a partnership of local Christian churches". Hmmmmm. What to make of this

16. I think he's trapped in some cell in Gitmo
and being prayed over by right-wing fanatics, trying to get him to renounce his evil, liberal ways . . .

BEYOND BELIEF MEDIA LAUNCHES PREEMPTIVE STRIKE ON EASTER
Copies Of Controversial Documentary Are Hidden In Churches Throughout U.S.

Hollywood -- April 11, 2006. Declaring War on Easter, Beyond Belief Media has launched a preemptive attack on the Christian holiday, the company announced today. "Operation Easter Sanity" has already begun.

Using its documentary THE GOD WHO WASN'T THERE as the chief weapon, Beyond Belief Media is covertly planting DVDs of the film in churches throughout the United States. The popular movie, currently ranked #1 on Amazon.com's independent documentaries list, is critical of the irrational beliefs of Christians and asserts that Jesus Christ did not exist.

A total of 666 DVDs will be hidden like "Easter eggs" in sanctuaries, church yards and other holy areas by Beyond Belief Media's national team of volunteers. The DVDs will be slipped into hymnals and other locations where they are likely to be discovered by unsuspecting worshipers.

Some DVDs of THE GOD WHO WASN'T THERE will be planted by undercover operatives among actual Easter eggs at churches holding egg hunts on Easter Sunday.

"People go to churches to hide from the truth," explained Beyond Belief Media president Brian Flemming, a former Christian fundamentalist. "At no time is this more apparent than Easter, when Christians get together to convince each other that a man died, stayed dead three days, rose from the dead and then flew into the air above the clouds.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WAR ON EASTER AND GET A FREE COPY OF THE DVD
http://www.waroneaster.org/how-to-join

Your mission, if you choose to accept it:

1. If you have a DVD of The God Who Wasn’t There, place it in a Christian church between now and Easter Sunday. Take pictures of yourself doing it (very important), and email them with your report to pictures@beyondbeliefmedia.com so that we can publish your mission on the site. In return, you will get a brand new DVD of The God Who Wasn’t There to replace the one you planted. If you also place some flyers in the same church (see below) your DVD will be personally inscribed and signed by The God Who Wasn’t There director Brian Flemming.

2. If you don’t currently have a DVD, download a flyer or two at this link, and print out a bunch of copies. Hide these copies creatively (see below) in one or more Christian churches between now and Easter Sunday. Take pictures of yourself doing at least one plant (very important), and email them with your report to pictures@beyondbeliefmedia.com so that we can publish your mission on the site. In return, you will get a brand new DVD of The God Who Wasn’t There. If your mission hits more than one church, your DVD will be personally inscribed and signed by Brian Flemming.

Phonecam pix are fine–it just has to show the action happening. Another shot of the church itself would be nice, too. Examples and tips for smooth sailing are below.

To sum up, email your mission report to pictures@beyondbeliefmedia.com. The report should include 1) Your description of the mission. 2) Pictures from the mission. 3) Your mailing address, so we can send your DVD. 4) Any inscription you would like if you’re getting a signed DVD. (We won’t publish your name or any personal information about you on the site–just your mission report and pictures. Tell us the nickname you want us to use if you want to be credited as other than “Anonymous Operative”.)

13. I find this just as offensive
Spirituality is personal - and should stay out of government. I don't like militant believers, or militant non-believers.

several years ago, though I don't recall the financing behind it. I believe they were distributed by a group in Dallas. I'm guessing it's the same video; a copy of which showed up in my mailbox.

Edited for typo.

12. I have nothing against Jesus
It's some of his followers - especially when
i catch a whiff of political motivation. As a "believer", I resent this, everyone has their own path and that's my business.

18. A church in my area sponsored a similar mailing
a year or so ago - VHS, not DVD. There was a stack of unwanted videos in the post office. And this in the so-called Bible Belt south.

Following that, there was an excellent letter to the editor of the local paper, saying that while the writer understood the sender meant well, she asked herself WWJM (what would Jesus mail?) and thought the money might have been better spent helping those who had lost their jobs in our lousy local economy.

a copy of Darwin's "The Origin of Species". That'll learn 'em.
