Natalie, the lead singer, is in a white dress...trying to wipe oil off her

Subject: Dixie Chicks

For any of you who want to see the new 'Chicks' video...it is pretty stark. CMT is actually premiering it...I am surprised, the Chicks are a lot bigger than I. But, regardless of what the Bushits would like for you to think, in 2002-3, whenever they said what they did...they DID NOT lose money...in fact, they were the best selling concert venue that year...they cleaned up. This video is worth seeing...for all of you! I know of only one place to get it now...you have to go on the 'www.cmt.com' website...click on artist, then type in 'Dixie Chicks'...and it will go to their picture, scroll down, until you see the name of the song...and click on video. "I'm not ready to make nice"....and Natalie, the lead singer, is in a white dress...trying to wipe oil off her hands...it is stark! very! There is a line in it that shocked me, she says, "Who do you think you are to write and tell me to just shut up and sing, if I want to live," Something to that effect...It is worth it guys.

Shirley.....St. Louis

2. they are really brave women--so much integrity
They didn't have to speak out, back when criticizing Bush got people in big big trouble, but they did.

4. Here's the link-

It's very good.

There's a chalkboard where she has to write sentences about not speaking out, and I think, some docs trying to operate on her vocal chords.

9. This is going to be the test as to whether their careers were damaged
Given that the concerts were sold out long before Maines made her comments about Bush any financial indicators from that time period aren't really valid as far as measuring long-term fallout.

I think the album will do well enough in the marketplace but I don't think they'll pull the same sales numbers. The majority of people who didn't listen to them prior to their comments most likely aren't going to just up and buy the album this time around.

10. I might disagree...
I will buy their CD and I don't listen to C/W. But I will buy just to support and I know many others who will do the same thing. In fact, I may buy several to give to friends.

12. I will also buy their new CD from Amazon so it will get rated up
on the charts. I think I'll buy a couple of CD's too and give them to friends. The song is very, very good; very strong so that helps too. If you ever get a chance to see them in concert, do it. They are very polished and entertaining.

18. I bought their last CD in protest of the smear campaign
and brought the idea of one of the raffel prizes at Democratic events being the DC CD. I will buy this one for the same reason and will purchase tickets to concerts (whether I go or not) if they come to my town just to show I support what Maines said and what was done to them.

I can't be the only one who feels that way.

17. Too bad it's a little obtuse
I can SO see excerpts being (mis)appropriated by the machine in the same way Reagan used "Born in the U.S.A."

"I'm not ready to back down" (from the terrorists)
"I'm not ready to make nice" (with those freedom hating liberals)

There are only a few lines that I caught immune to misconstrual by - let's be kind - inattenitve listeners, e.g. the one about it sucking that a mother would teach her daughter to hate a complete stranger.

Now, take GWAR, a band who destroys an effigy of * at most concerts. Which I find ironic because a lot of metalheads would consider themselves more right/regressive than left/progressive (I read the Crisis Papers!). And yet the crowd goes nuts. Go figure.

that they were blaring 'Born in the USA' from the speakers.

Attendance: generously - 25 + one dog

I was literally crying from laughter. They are truly dumber than they look.

30. just like the YMCA using the song YMCA at their events...
I used to work for the Y, and they'd whip out this song in a heartbeat. So we've got all these misguided fundies who gladly spit in a homosexual's eye (because Gawd would want that) singing at the top of their lungs about a place to 'get a good meal and do whatever you feel.'

Rightwing fundie jeezis crispies amuse me...

...regardless of what the Bushits would like for you to think...they DID NOT lose money...in fact, they were the best selling concert venue that year...

As a music journalist, I can vouch for that. Yeah, the Bushits Dixie-chicked the Dixie Chicks SO badly that their tour sold out, their album sold four million copies, and they've sold an ADDITIONAL two million copies since!

32. Thanks for the truth about that. I'm a Dixie Chicks fan from the first...
...time I ever heard their music. I caught their act on PBS and was blown away at all that talent and music and attitude. So it was really easy for me to go out and buy their latest album after they pissed off the right wingers. I'll be happy to get this new one too -- but I'll have to wait to hear it until then, but no matter.

I'm not really a Country-Western fan -- just a fan of talent when I see it.

27. Prediction -- This will be huge!
This is a strong effort and a protest song just when we need one. There is a huge cavity in the place that was filled by Dylan, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, etc. in the sixties, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger before that.

This will flood the country markets and be a huge crossover hit. I'd say this will climb the pop charts and could make it to number one. The chicks will be bigger than ever! I'm sure I'm not the only one to think this.

Oh yeah, there's no substitute for talent. It's a great song. :)

29. Had not been a fan of the 'Chicks' until now...
I sorta tolerated their sort of country twang to begin with... my daughter turned me on to them... when they got blasted for Natalie's comments, I kinda started to like 'em a little more. This song and video are awesome! I'll stack this one song against all of Toby Keith's 'Boot in Yer Ass, I'm making bank off of this war' songs... still not a die hard country fan yet...
