Poll question: Is a military draft in our near future? |
|
As we all know, enlistment is in the toilet and soldiers are having to pull multiple and lengthened duties in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
If (when) we go to war with Iran, I cannot imagine that we have anywhere near the troop strength to be able to maintain three simultaneous wars.
They've already reformed the draft boards. They're ready to go. Will they?

2. No! There will be no draft. |
|
He doesn't want his legacy to be "like father like son". Father: "Read my lips, no new taxes" Son: "There will be no draft". He doesn't care how many tours of duty our troops have to indure.

Republicans like it as it is...their kids can stay home and fight the war of "ideas" as they say. I'm sure the real soldiers appreciate that too.

10. I think the irony is that they don't seem to care anymore |
|
Bush can't run again and he's so unpopular, and they seem to be pushing through everything they can these days with no regard whatsoever of public opinion - even that of their base on many issues.

the draft is a political third rail. With over 60% of the country opposed to this insanity, jump starting the draft should blow the lid off.

. . . and military training and deployment when necessary must be a mandatory part.
This will come when Americans decide it's time to act in accordance with the principles and values we claim to cherish.
It may not be as far away as you think.
Recovery from fascism is a powerful thing.
And we WILL recover.
