About the new Dixie Chicks video
Check it out http://www.dixiechicks.com/ (works for me using Firefox).

39 seconds into the video, the lead singer is lying on the floor with her hands in a puddle that looks like oil. Her black (or oil covered) skirt is splayed out behind her...

In the shape of IRAQ.

Puts the song in a whole new context.

I couldn't see it in the shape of Iraq, but I may have missed it, too.

This is an incredible and moving vid! The Dixie Chicks will have my complete support!

Beautiful song!

Thanks for the heads up!

87. The dress "kinda" resembles Iraq - here's a photo comparison
They probably didn't want the dress to be an exact outline of Iraq, because a subtle message is often more powerful than a blatant one (art is cool like that).

Plus, I think the dress could also be an outline of Iran as well...

Or even Saudi Arabia for that matter...

So maybe they wanted the dress to look like any one of a number of middle eastern oil rich countries. That would make sense.

Great video.

30. That's what it looked like and appeared that there may have been a rift
within the Dixie Chicks, with her bandmates wanting her to "back down" as well.

Then the video shows the three with their hands clasped.

That's my take...I really didn't follow them until now. I'll definitely be getting the CD. It also contains the song "I Hope", which they performed on the Katrina benefit on NBC. MKJ

32. It does
I was just reading the press released about the album:

The results cover an impressive range of territory. "Silent House" examines the emotions that come from watching an older relative struggle with Alzheimer's. "It's So Hard When It Doesn't Come Easy" addresses infertility, an issue that both Robison and Maguire have faced. The Chicks debuted the gospel-inflected "I Hope," co-written with Keb' Mo, during last year's telethon benefiting the victims of Hurricane Katrina; the album version features a blistering guitar solo by John Mayer.

"This album was total therapy," says Natalie Maines. "I'm way more at peace now. Writing these songs and saying everything we had to say makes it possible to move on."

Love the Dixie Chicks and will support them by buying the CD when it comes out. It takes a lot of guts to put out a video like this. I think that those of us who don't drink the kool aid should do what we can to support them. You know some of the country music folks are going to snub them. We need to band together let them know that there are plenty of us who have the same beliefs.

15. Looks like I'm about to own another Dixie Chicks Albumn
Seems like they are pretty clear here:

"I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should"

level. But that doesn't mean that the message won't get out.

Anyone who gives the Dixie Chicks a hard time at this point in the history of the Bush Administration and who refuses to admit that they have an apology coming to them or is complicit in letting them get their version of things out is an asshole or a delusional buffoon, plain and simple.

19. Honestly, what was it that was so damned offensive to people?
Sheesh, Natalie was pandering to a foreign, anti-war crowd in London, on the eve of the Iraq invasion.

She said, "“Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.”

What in bloody hell is so scandalous about that? I didn't get it anymore then than I do now.

Does anybody? The world seemed so hysterical back then, only three years ago...

22. holy freaking crap. i LOVE the DIXIE CHICKS
way before they hit, they came to johnson city and played at a place i worked called the Down Home. it was before natalie joined. the Down Home is a sort of "picking palor" -- bluegrass, newgrass, mountain music, old country (and a little bit of twangy rock). it was a full house and everyone was blown away. it wasn't just the quality of their playing -- they had that 'thing' that makes you connect.

by the time they hit, i'd moved to nashville and couldn't care less about 'country' music, so i paid little attention during their ascent.

when natalie got in all that trouble over (gasp!) chastising the pred'nit, i was floored. thank fucking god someone said something. not only did their stand force people to examine the 'war,' but it also made us take a look at radio monopolies (clear channel).

Natialie! you fucking rock, girl! and you look great. now, stop losing weight, you're making the rest of us look bad! :)

brainwash her and at the end she is part of the program. If you hold your hand up and keep your two middle fingers together, it forms a W. Black tape forcing your two middle fingers together making you raise your hand in a W.

dark substance and yes it has the consistency of oil. I think the part with x-rays is a scene for a lobotomy. In other words, they want to give her a lobotomy so she won't speak her mind and be anymore trouble. They've labeled her crazy!

Now if I could just figure out why they have their two middle fingers taped together twice with black tape?!?!?! I saw it in a couple of scenes and it is very obvious that they want you to see it because she holds her hand up near the end where it is very obvious. Anybody???

On edit:

I watched it again. Maybe the fingers taped together means that she has now been programmed. The other two are obviously playing the role of already being programmed. It even shows the two of them "drinking the koolaid", etc. Then they are all three moving the same, pushing their hair back and holding hands after the "lobotomy" scene.

This video is full of symbolism. Very interesting.

70. Here is link to the great new Pearl Jam song
"Worldwide Suicide"

http://www.jrecords.com/ecard/pearljam/mediaplayer/

<<WORLDWIDE SUICIDE
(lyrics and music: Vedder)

I felt the earth on Monday. It moved beneath my feet.
In the form of a morning paper. Laid out for me to
see.

Saw his face in a corner picture. I recognized the
name.
Could not stop staring at the. Face I'd never see
again.

It's a shame to awake in a world of pain
What does it mean when a war has taken over

It's the same everyday in a hell manmade
What can be saved, and who will be left to hold her?

The whole world...World over.
It's a worldwide suicide.

Medals on a wooden mantle. Next to a handsome face.
That the president took for granted.
Writing checks that others pay.

And in all the madness. Thought becomes numb and
naive.
So much to talk about. Nothing for to say.

It's the same everyday and the wave won't break
Tell you to pray, while the devils on their shoulder

Laying claim to the take that our soldiers save
Does not equate, and the truth's already out there

The whole world,... World over.
It's a worldwide suicide.

The whole world,... World over.
It's a worldwide suicide.

Looking in the eyes of the fallen
You got to know there's another, another, another,
another
Another way

It's a shame to awake in a world of pain
What does it mean when a war has taken over

It's the same everyday and the wave won't break
Tell you to pray, while the devils on their shoulder

The whole world,... World over.
It's a worldwide suicide.

The whole world,... World over.
It's a worldwide suicide.>>

66. Sounds like Laura Ingraham is honored in this video...
"It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over."

Did Laura induce someone to threaten them?? She could be liable for that.

69. Kool-Aid...gasoline?
or gasoline-flavoured Kool-Aid?

Alotta stuff packed in there:

the "ladylike" petticoats and the stripey prison-bar skirts

the creepy religiousy people are sort of Spanish Inquisition, no? And the scary old-fashioned woman.
In Williaam S Burrough's poem, A Thanksgiving Prayer, he refers to judgemental people with their 'mean, pinched, bitter faces". Like them.

The projection of tumped over house in front of picket fence could refer to katrina *and" Kansas (as in We're not in Kansas anymore/What's wrong with

Good point on the "smear"
There's a whispering part, too.

Art directon is somehow Deadwoodish.

But golly, friends, can you just imagine the rush when we all shout along with her at that part Mr Spock quoted?

"Top Of The World"

Is there anybody out there?
That wakes up with a bitter taste?
It's a king that we put up there
And he's a short way to fall from grace
It's slowly filling upward.
You can stand but you have no ground.
I hear it from the lost words.
They say it's time that you lost your crown.

Don't be so greedy.
A dollar's a penny to you
When hearts are beating
Say what you want 'em to do.
Wasting away... I see you.
When the top of the world falls on you
Finding a day, don't wanna be you
When the top of the world falls on you

Is there anybody out there?
That can see what a man can change?
It's better that you don't care
Because he knows that he's in his state
I feel the paranoia.
When there's a time, put you in your place
In the eyes of those who watch ya
Well they can wait 'til you hit your face

Don't be so greedy.
A dollar's a penny to you
When hearts are beating
Say what you want 'em to do.
Wasting away... I see you.
When the top of the world falls on you
Finally a day, don't wanna be you.
When the top of the world falls on you

Paint yourself a picture
When you waste another picture
And you win, and you win, and you win
Paint yourself a picture
And then you break another picture
And you win, and you win, and you win
And you win, yeah you win, and you win

Don't be so greedy
A dollar's a penny to you
When hearts stop beating
Say what you want 'em to do
Wasting away... I see you
When the top of the world falls on you
Finding a day, don't wanna be you
When the top of the world falls on you

Wasting away... I see you
When the top of the world falls on you
Finding a day, don't wanna be you
When the top of the world falls on you

Again sorry if that is old news.

80. The song, the video and the chicks are all just wonderful. In addition
to the oil symbolism,I also took it to be an allegory of the smear that right-wingers had placed on them.

What kind of mother WOULD teach her child to hate a perfect stranger? The words to this song are so strong and meaningful The chicks were one of the first entertainers to stand against the BFEE and for that I salute them and will support them by buying this c/d.

They've held their heads high, soldiered on, sold out concerts, wore "FUTK" shirts, shot a landmark magazine cover, raised their children, loved their husbands, wrote and played incredible music in a hostile country environment, suffered a ridiculous Diane Sawyer interview, and know what?

They're not ready to back down, they're not ready to play nice.

I've never loved or admired them more.

112. Buy GWB a copy of the CD!!!!
I need some help. I think we should all show just how ashamed we are of GWB and his policies. The Dixie Chicks have stated in no uncertain terms how they feel about his policies, and I think it is time we do the same. Lets make a statement, buy extra copies of Taking the Long Way, the new Chicks album, and send them to Mr. Bush. I think he deserves to hear this great music.

You can pre-order them at Amazon.com for less that $10, and I think if he received a whole bunch of new Chicks CD's, that would make quite a statement. Please spread the word around, tell friends, and post it on message boards. Pick one up for yourself also, their music is outstanding.

Please request songs off the new CD at your local Adult Contemporary and Country stations. Don't let the neo-conservatives take our right to free speech away. Most stations are still refusing to play the new single, Not Ready to Make Nice, or any Dixie Chicks song for that matter, and we need to persuade the radio station to play them.

I don't mean for this to sound like an advertisement, and as you can tell, I am a big Chicks fan, but I think what has happened to them for simply stating an opinion is atrocious, and we need to squash this attitude.

Thanks and all help is appreciated.
