Bush's October surprise - it's coming
By Spengler

One hears not an encouraging word about US President George W Bush these days, even from Republican loyalists. Yet I believe that Bush will stage the strongest political comeback of any US politician since Abraham Lincoln won re-election in 1864 in the midst of the American Civil War.

Two years ago I wrote that Bush would win a second term as president but live to regret it. Iraq's internal collapse and the president's poll numbers bear my forecast out. But Bush's Republicans will triumph in next November's congressional elections for the same reason that Bush beat Democratic challenger John Kerry in 2004. Americans rally around a wartime commander-in-chief, and Bush will have bombed Iranian nuclear installations by October.

One factoid encapsulates Bush's opportunity: in a February 14 CNN/Gallup poll, 80% of respondents said they believed that Iran, if it had nuclear weapons, would hand them over to terrorists; 59% said Iran might use nuclear weapons against the United States. A slight majority of those polled, to be sure, did not wish to use military action against Iran, but that should be interpreted as "not yet", for two-thirds said they worried that the US would not do enough to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Americans are a misunderstood people. Only one in five owns a passport, and a tiny fraction of non-immigrant Americans learns a foreign language. US apathy regarding what might plague the rest of the world is matched only by US bloodlust when attacked. President Bush earned overwhelming support by toppling Saddam Hussein, a caricature villain who appeared to threaten Americans, but earned opprobrium by committing American lives to the political rehabilitation of Iraq, about which Americans care little.

IMHO this is scary shit.

2. With civil war raging througout the Middle East
Bush might reign in the US, but at what cost. Civil War in Iraq. How would BUsh's strike effect Gaza. Guess, with a new GOP Congress re-elected Bush would be immune from Impeachment as he is branded a war criminal by International criminal courts.

3. Bush will "Wag the Iranian Dog"!
Bush does not care what the costs are. We are all subhuman to Bush and his pals! Only the extremely rich "Blue Bloods" are human to them!

6. Lets do the numbers.
If Republicans declare war on a new country every 2 years and there are 140 countries....they'll finally have to run on their record in 70 years.

8. There is a couple of posts, one in GD, and one in LBN that states that

they are planning 20-70 years of "global conflict".. No joke.. The plan calls for 20, but Newt wrote a paper a couple of years ago that pushes for 70 years of conflict, and Rummy is pushing Newt's paper hard.. They really want 20-70 years of it.. Both posts (one in LBN, one in GD) have links to both stories..

Edited for clarity..

2nd edit.. Link to story about the 20-70 years of "global conflict."

7. I think that you're way off base....

This man has changed the economic balance, has so skewed it that it's almost unrecognisable; he's killed young mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives for what is proven to be a war that has absolutely nothing to do with actual military need an this is becoming more and more obvious by the day and as a matter of fact, actually scrawled his name to a plan put together to do exactly what they're doing now.; he has been an abysmal failure, even if one doesn't take into account that he has NEVER been elected for anything and I mean ANYTHING. There has always been a "problem " in the elections that was resolved on one way or another by the courts and as a consequence, he has to be one of the most hated and detested man to ever infest the oval office. His veep is just ahead of bubonic plague in popularity and the rest of the bunch rate somewhere around pond scum in most american minds, Democrat, republican and everything in between.
He can't even lie right. If you're going to try to play fast and loose with the truth, at least make it somewhat believable. I've heard better lies from 2 year olds caught red handed with the offending cookie i their hand, crumbs on their mouths and visible hand prints on the cookie jar, who insist they didn't touch the cookies. In order to stage this comeback, he would have to have something approaching true success in just one thing presidential and let's face it, he can't even pronounce the language and fool anyone. He has the countenance of a bonobo hybrid, only less sophisticated and intelligent,(with apologies to the great apes). I just don't see what he can do to bring any measure of surprising success or turnaround in october, January or july for that matter. You have to have something go right for you and let's be honest, in order to have something turn around, you have to have something of substance under your belt. What has he done, just one thing, that has been successful? Hell, he wasn't even a successful candidate. Anything he tried is going to viewed as a part of something designed to further hurt the middle class and/or line the pockets of the defense contractors and carlyle group fat cats. He's lost any strength , real or imagined, even in the dull eyes of his personality cult freepers and those like them. The religious right has seen that he has feel of styrofoam, tells the truth when it suits him and not the complete truth then. He no longer has the ability to cast any illusion of security and protection of this country and our interests. Nope, I think that there's not a chance in hell of this ahppening. He'd have to have some measure of trust in the greater population of americans and he doesn't.
