Stop the Demonstrations! GOP to Drop Felony to Misdemeanor For Immigrants.
GOP Leaders to Drop Felony for Immigrants By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent

WASHINGTON - The two top Republicans in Congress, confronted with internal party divisions as well as large public demonstrations, said Tuesday they intend to pass immigration legislation that does not subject illegal immigrants to prosecution as felons.

A written statement by House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, did not say whether they would seek legislation subjecting illegal immigrants to misdemeanor prosecution or possibly a civil penalty such as a fine.

"It remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony," the two men said. An estimated 11 million men, women and children are in the United States illegally.

The Republican-controlled House passed legislation late last year that is generally limited to border security measures. It makes illegal immigrants subject to felony prosecution.

Senate efforts to write a broader bill — covering border security, a guest worker program and a path to citizenship for many of the 11 million in the country illegally — are gridlocked with lawmakers on a two-week vacation.

4. So what? The bill still makes them criminals
I don't give a flying f**k whether immigrants are turned into felons or petty criminals overnight. The repunks still are planning to criminalize illegal immigrants. Since when is it a crime to rise above your beginnings?

5. Even These Morons Saw This Was Impossible To Enforce
Let's try to round-up 11 million illegals...think about what this would require. The INS is sure not up to handling this Eichmann-like job, so who would do it? A depleted national guard? A stressed out army (and what about posse comititus...if that mattered)? Hate Radio hosts loaded with high-powered rifles?

That doesn't even deal with the problem of where to find 'em. We raid every Home Depot parking lot? Send paratroopers dropping into the barrios of East LA? It'd be like a Cheech y Chong movie on crack.

The Repugnicans are stuck in a trap of their own making. They didn't expect the reaction from the hispanics...they thought they'd just sit there and take the continued racist rhetoric. Those 500,000 marchers in DC the other day...the people who do their lawns, serve their meals, nanny their kids...scared the shit out of them.

This is almost like Schaivo...a drastic overplay to pander to the racists and "nationalists" in the Repugnican party and try to snag some Liberatarians and Independents. It's turned into an inter-party fight between the corporistists and the racists.

Kudos to the Democrats for standing strong for Hispanic rights and here's to inviting our latino brothers and sisters to join us in our struggle to remove this wretched regime.

6. Sarcasm in the headline
I interpreted "Stop the Demonstrations" to be sarcastic.
