California district 50 sent a message to the repugs last night.
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 11:14 AM by tjwash
You can flood the airwaves with all the swiftboat bullshit that you want, but people just are not buying it anymore.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting early Wednesday, Busby had 56,147 votes, or 44 percent. Bilbray had 19,366 votes, or 15 percent, followed by Eric Roach, a political newcomer who spent $1.8 million on his own campaign, who had 18,486 votes, or 14 percent.

"People know that this district today voted for change in Washington," Busby told supporters Tuesday night. "We sent a message that we will no longer accept business as usual."

District 50 in California was the Dukesters old district. The significance of this, is that it's rich, whitebread, and extremely conservative. Though she didn't get the 50% + 1 vote to outright win, for a Dem to get 44 percent, in a field of 18 candidates, and the nearest repug gets 15 percent in THIS district, is astounding to me.

This may be one of the first signs that the people may have FINALLY had enough, and perhaps are starting to wake up.

Anyone who lives here in San Diego, can tell you of the massive flood of right wing slime, that has been launched at Busby. The ironic thing, being they were using money from Tom Delay's old lobby, to try and tell people that Busby was taking corrupt money
:wtf:

2. Is roger hegecock involved in the Busby bashing?
What a vile, disgusting human being he is. Classic "conservative" and a convicted felon to boot.

11. Why so many gop candidates?
It sounds like a concerted effort on their part. I stopped trusting republicans and their motivations long ago. When is the next election and how can we help?

3. Congratulations! That's great news.
I agree that it should be a strong message to all Republicans up for re-election. Regardless of what they think, the people in the street are wanting CHANGE. Which means out with the Republicans.

I live in Tulsa, a very conservative city, and we just elected a Democratic Mayor over a Republican incumbent. If it can happen here, in the heart of the conservative Bible belt, it can happen anywhere.

This should be motivation for all Democratic candidates running. It is possible, no matter how close the race. People are fed up, and they want change.

This is good news - we need all of it we can get these days!

13. It's encouraging but I am awaiting the runoff results.

True, but only one other democrat ran and that district is likely 45-55 Dem to GOP. It is still encouraging just don't get deflated if she loses the runoff.

Here's a cool discussion from the swing state project

16. 17? Wow, a lot of republicans want Duke's old job
Considering the "extra" perks for the GOP rep from that district, I can see why.

23. 44% is about what Kerry got in '04
so hopefully the republicans will continue to be fractured and unable to unite, and she might be able to win.

25. Kos is right. This is not good news...
Not enough turnout to get 50% of the vote in a battle against 17 repugs?

"...The Democratic leadership thinks that the GOP implosion will ipso facto translate to Democratic victories in November. But the electorate is universally disenchanted with politics.

The GOP has proven, time and time again, that it is incapable of governing. But Democrats have not shown they are any different. They do not paint any bright lines between them and us. And they do nothing to motivate the Democratic base to turn out and vote.

My sense of pessimism for November's elections only gets deeper the more elections show lower and lower turnout. Our supporters have stopped giving a shit. They were burned three elections in a row, and seeing nothing different come from the leadership, it has become easier for them to tune out.
.."
