2. Skilling is testifying this week
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 06:23 PM by dogday
Said there were no problems that he was aware of at Enron....

All I can think about is the poor people here in Houston that lost their jobs and savings because of the greed of these men... They are selling us all down the river......

7. it really is stunning that this is going on under almost complete
darkness. the only reason I remembered, after hearing a little on the radio last week about Skilling's absolute ignorance defense, was that there was a short bit on BBC News a few minutes ago

I've seen not one WORD on US TV. not that I watch network news, but nothing on cable. contrast this with the wall to wall Martha Stewart coverage

how many people lost their jobs and life's savings because of her, btw?

8. I wonder how much of this sabre rattling is aimed at keeping Enron
buried.

There's only so many stories that can go, and they have a pecking order. They run all this 9/11 stuff and witnesses as a way to create a daily feed of info for news.

Meanwhile, the testimony from Enron isn't exciting or interesting. Either he was involved or he wasn't.

I don't know how much Rove has stirred up to keep Enron a low coverage story, but some of it has to be from him.

15. she was charged with lying to investigators
and the insider profit she made wrongly was about 60K

Talk about a lack of perspective.

Martha Stewart, Lil Kim, Tommy Chong.

Meanwhile, where's Ken Lay, and Dick Cheney?

11. gee...here's a surprise...he can't REMEMBER stuff!

Stale PR
Skilling, though, said he never discussed lying or doing anything illegal with any of them. His testimony has been long on stale Enron PR and short on explanations for how the company imploded without his knowledge. In fact, much of the past two days, Skilling has confronted some of the most damaging evidence against him with a simple denial: "No." Did he lie? "No." Did he tell others to lie? "No." Was the LJM partnership an Enron puppet? "No." Is he consumed by greed? "No."

Those troublesome lapses
Where the flat-out denials stop, the memory lapses begin. He doesn't recall telling subordinates that earnings numbers had to beat Wall Street estimates, despite witnesses who said he did.

Most amazingly, he said he didn't remember calling his broker on Sept. 6, 2001, to place a sell order for 200,000 shares of Enron stock. Yet in this very trial, the jury has heard the testimony of the broker, whose recollection is quite clear, as well as tapes of the actual phone conversations. The call pertains to the insider trading charges against him, but it conflicts with his earlier testimony to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Skilling told the SEC that he sold an even larger amount of Enron stock on Sept. 17 because he was distraught over the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

..............

huh?????

seems to me, this kind of baldfaced horsetwaddle would make for FABULOUS TV, woudln't it?

is even Court TV covering this?
