Earlier today I was listening to NPR and a large portion of it was dedicated to the father of John Lindh "the American Taliban" reading from his book.
I cannot find it on their website but it was really touching. The way he cooperated yet tortured - and this before Abu Ghraib, of course. And the way he was linked to Al Qaeda and the comments by Ashcroft.. And at the same time another American of Saudi origin was caught, too. But he was set free and sent to his family.. all he had to do was give up his American citizenship.

1. The Lindh and Hamdi cases were different. |
|
John Lindh was caught up in a prison uprising in which a CIA officer was killed. He was front page news. Yaser Hamdi had a much lower profile. He was captured by the Northern Alliance under questionable circumstances. Most important, the evidence against Hamdi just didn't stand up. The government cut a deal after the courts ruled they had jurisdiction.
