He gave to the RNC as recently as last June, too. I had the general impression that Koontz would be a progressive for sure.

154. Oh, come on, people - he writes good page-flippers,
but I've always thought the political philosophy was pretty obvious. On the other hand, what is is with Paul Anka? The "having my baby" guy give 77% to the dems?

My biggest disappointment among writers has always been Mark Helprin. WOnderful, amazing writer - especially "A Soldier in the Great War" - and he holds very conservative political views. I would never has guessed from his books, though.

He has some anti war lyrics in his new stuff. he's also very sensitive to the Freedom of Speech issues that have arisen too. Anyone who wrote "Sign of the Times" is aware of what's up. I'll still love that little man no matter what though. No one else makes my booty shake like he does. :D

Look at the detail. His donation was a single payment of $1000, to John McCain's presidential campaign in 2000. In other words, money donated to work against Bush. Not perfect, but a damn sight better than it could be.

28. CORRECTION. Try reading the page.
The page and database list CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS, not party registration. According to the Federal Election Commission, Arianna has not made a contribution to a federal candidate or PAC since her republican days. You can search any number of FEC databases out there, but the answer's still the same.

My point? I went to both fec.gov and opensecrets.org, and both databases corroborated newsmeat.com's report. She hasn't made a federal camapaign contribution since 93.

So before you go writing off information that doesn't exactly fit with your world view, try to do the least bit of research beforehand.

You've been owned.

Looking over that list of donations, I noticed 2 things:

- almost all of the celebrities who I like on that list gave mostly to to Dems.

- the majority of the celebrities who gave to Repukes are people who I haven't really heard of and/or don't really care about. Most of the Repuke celebrities who I have heard of are people who I didn't like to begin with. The Repukes can have Shannen Doherty, Kathie Lee Gifford and Toby Keith for all I care...

36. Pugs Vs Democrats - The Tragically Un-hip Vs the Good Folk
It's almost pathetic, looking at the list of Reptilicans. It reads like a celebrity has-been reality show waiting to happen:
Merle Haggard
Tippi Hedren
Charlton Heston
Dennis Hopper
Pat Boone
Swoosie Kurtz
Lee Greenwood
Merv Griffin
José Feliciano
Larry Gatlin
Kathie Lee Gifford
Buck Owens
Maury Povich

And here we have the Democrats:
Tom Hanks
Tommy Lee Jones
Samuel L. Jackson
Katharine Hepburn
Dustin Hoffman
Billy Joel
Stephen King
Larry David
Michael Douglas
Richard Dreyfuss
Harrison Ford
Garrison Keillor
Conan O'Brien
Al Pacino
Sean Penn
Robert Redford
Robert DeNiro

Says it all, doesn't it?

Merle is an American treasure.

Besides his donation was to a congressional race in 1982.

He's been very vocal about his displeasure with Bush and the war.

60. Look at the details, folks!
Merle Haggard, 100% Republican? Why, yes, he gave $1000 to a Republican candidate for the House in 1982.

Dwight Yoakum, 100% Republican? He gave $200 to the party in 1991.

It doesn't seem as though results have been updated in a while. And some of the deceased celebrities gave to a Republican Party that was not run by the extremists now in charge.

Looking at the list, I notice that there are far more Democratic contributors than Republican.

I'm NOT going to cross anyone off my list because of this info. I get annoyed if someone makes a big stink about being Republican--but Schwarzenegger was never exactly a favorite. Robert Duval may be a Republican old fart--but that won't keep me from watching Lonesome Dove.

lovable, sweet Jimmy Stewart. He's been dead a while, but I'm certain he was an Eisenhower-type Republican. A man who came across as so nice had to have a lot of social conscience. Only two other things have ever affected me like that. If you ever feel like a good sob, listen to the words of "That Silverhaired Daddy of Mine" and "Old Shep." But I suggest you don't listen to them both at the same time. They'll tear your heart out.

I don't base my entertainment decisions on a person's politics, but rather on their singing/playing/acting/etc. skills.

However I think that this website is a bit inaccurate. They have Bob Barker contributing nothing to Special Interest Groups, yet I know he is heavily involved in the politics of the Humane Society, animal shelters, etc, from local to the national level.

167. Jerry is no GOPer.
He gave the same amounts to Gore and Bradley as he did to *, in 2000. I think he was just displaying his offbeat sense of humor. He only gave to Dems in 2004.

117. Nope. I Could Care Less.
They're celebrities, not senators. I could care less about their politics, as that's their business. If they entertain me, I like them, if they don't, then I don't. It really is just that simple to me.

Democratic party:sarcasm:

Shannon Daughtery - Go fuck yourself
Kathie Lee Gifford - You can really go fuck yourself
Dr. Phil - this explains why you are such an asshole
Ricardo Montalban - The plane may have left fantasy island but obviously you didn't
Chuck Norris - Spend your money on better toupees

Remember, her husband was that creep congresman that tried to force her into orgies and whatnot. Probably left a bad taste in her mouth vis a vis Republican values.

Not very surprising though. Walker Texas Ranger i mean come on. One thing that I find funny is that Kathy Lee Gifford, a person who makes children slaves, donates to the GOP!

141. My wife, Morgan Freeman (yeah, that's the ticket) is doing okay...
The DNC, Edwards, Dean, Kerry, Friends of Hilary...

Yes, she gave to McCain, too, but that was during the primary season. I'll forgive her that, since it was money against boosh*.

And I'd tell her that I'll forgive her that one transgression, too, if that rather unfortunate restraining order ever gets lifted.

163. GOP= Shitkickers, Game Show Hosts, Has-beens, & Never-was.
I saw one name that surprised me.. one: Prince. But it was an old donation, so I'll cut him some slack. Most of the others were literally all within the categories above. The old donations were not as offensive, as the republican party wasn't always the axis of evil. But.. outside of Prince and Arianna Huffington (who used to be married to a repug politician), I found ZERO people I admire on the GOP donor list. Not one..

168. I liked Michael Creighton till I read "State of Fear".
Then his true colors came out as a corporatist and anti-environment.
In that POS he pretty much came out and said that environmentalists do more harm to the environment than industry.
I had to hold my nose to finish the last 5 chapters.

169. Making assumptions
Unless someone only makes donations to one party for a long period of time, it's probably a good idea not to assume their party affiliation. I would guess that in some cases, celebrities might have given to a party or a candidate because that candidate happened to support an issue that they were involved with.
