Poll: 48% back military action against Iran
A poll conducted by the Los Angeles Times and Bloomberg reveals that 48% of Americans would back military action against Iran if the government continues pursuing nuclear technology, RAW STORY has found.

However, a majority (54%) of the poll's respondents indicated that they don't believe President Bush will make the "right decision."

17. Agreed...

America is extremely weary of the Iraq war (which every major poll proves). Has PNAC branched out to to fix polls as well as elections?

28. Support for military action in Iran has gone down 10 points since the last
poll, which I believe was in February of this year. That is, the majority who favored action then has shrunk to become the minority now. And this is SINCE the Hersh article appeared.

In other words, what looks like bad news out of context is actually good news in context. The Iran crap ISN'T flying.

3. Wow, 48 percent? Did they learn nothing from Iraq?
I guess people have been so terrorized that they'd vote for Adolf Hitler if he promised them security.

4. who ARE these people?
I have a hard time swallowing their 'fact' that 48% of those polled actually believe anything this administration says, and can wrap their minds around the U.S. actually having enough military to pursue this. And then the 2nd figure, 54% indicating that * won't make the right decision would seem to indicate that they believe that * would go into Iran. So it seems that 54% believe that * would be wrong to make this decision, but 48% of the same people polled would support the action. Hmmm.... that just sounds squirrely.

5. Oh, please....
48 percent of the winos in Washington, the crackheads in LA and the junkies on Chicago, not to mention the midwest Meth users probably didn't comprehend the question. If 48% answered that way, them my rear end is platinum clad...

7. Maybe it was the wording of the questions...
I don't know ANYBODY in favor of military action against Iran, not even republicans. In fact, this is kind of a background issue that few are taking seriously in my experience. Those who are paying attention usually snort and roll their eyes before replying to questions about it. Only 54% think he'll make a bad decision - who'd they ask??

11. Americans seem naturally belicose
A reason to live in Europe. We do. Diplomacy comes naturally. Italy's left the US circle. Even most of the world's right wing think US policy nuts. They hope sanity can return to the US so the US can again lead their world. Same as in foreign policy or security is US urban streets. Violence seems natural.

BUt, then I thought the same thing when the country entered Iraq. Wording on polls can be misleading of one's intentions.

22. Looks like I can eat my words.
LA Times poll today says the percentage of American's who support war with Iran is down. Now under 50%. maybe catching on to BUsh's lies. Gotta remember. At the start of Bush's Iraq war, a majority of American's were against his war . He just bambozooled them with shock and awe. War fever is catchy.

12. How does that work?
Almost 60% want out of Iraq, but 8% of those want to get a new one started in Iran?

Does not compute.

13. that can't be possible
With more people than that (58%) thinking Iraq was a mistake, it mathematically isn't possible. Besides, since when did it matter what Americans think?

15. The question was posed to control the response
They loaded the question to provoke a "positive" reaction. I think it's amazing that, given the fact, they couldn't even
get a majority against the Iconic Evil of the Modern Era. Can you imagine only 48% of Cold War era Americans being against
war with a clear threat from the USSR?

19. I believe it.
If it ain't "American Idol" or some other TV show, most people know VERY little about the world outside of the US. Some don't even know about the US and her politics!

Here is my opinion:

Of the 48% that said they would back military action against Iran...

96% would tell you that Saddam was involved with 9-11.
93% couldn't name 20 other countries in the world.
87% couldn't name the Representative for their district.
83% couldn't pick Iran out on a map of the world. (of those, 24% wouldn't even guess the correct continent)
75% couldn't tell you who the Secretary of State of the US is.
63% couldn't tell you the name of the 5 prior US presidents.
50% couldn't tell you the Iranian capital.
40% couldn't name their Senators (or even know there are only two per state).

So why do I point these things out? Well, as interesting as polls are, if it is really random, you will get opinions from people who know nothing about the topic, but still answer anyway. Think of it this way...if a pollster called you and asked: "do you think that random atoms collide in such a way to disturb the time continuum? yes or no?" Would you answer, despite your lack of knowledge on your part or would you answer because of what you believe?

Face it, polls like this are nothing more than interesting. People base opinions on their own knowledge and experience, but if that is not factored into the poll, how useful is it really?

20. Watch the percentage drop to ZERO
When you preface this Poll question: to the effect that THEY or one of THEIR KIDS will be one of the first "shock troops" clandestinely dropped in behind the lines, immediately after the bombing of the Persians. Time to sign up for Air Mobile, Airborne, Pathfinder? Any Right Wing volunteers? Step right up!

...48 percent of about 1100 people that they asked, said that they would back military action. This was not even a real poll.

and they keep their fat asses on the couch, eating pork rinds and watching "Dancing With The Stars".

Anyway, there's a lot of dumb-ass mofo's in this country, but 48% sounds a little high to me.
