My far-right, life-long Republican mother-in-law has finally seen the light. She's through defending Bush. She's disgusted with our incompetence in Iraq, she's worried about what we're planning for Iran, she's angry about all the money being handed to the lobbyists and corporations, she hates the new drug plan, etc., etc.

Best of all, she lives in a retirement residence with a lot of active seniors and she didn't say that any of them were arguing with her. I bet they're equally disgusted.

2. What? She hasn't heard the new survey quoted on GMA

yesterday morning. (I just caught the results, not who did the study and they don't have it on their website) Said that 85% of seniors signed up for part D were saving money and having no problems getting their meds. And that they didn't find anyone who had trouble filling out the paperwork or understanding the plans.

Diane Sawyer actually said all this with a straight face.

3. Her old plan required her to pay no more than $20-60 for any

prescription, no matter how expensive. But her company dropped this plan when the Medicare plan came along. She says that the best she can get now is going to cost her $5000 a year MORE than she was paying!

And they screwed up her paperwork, sent her a mistaken letter saying she had cancelled, etc., etc.

4. My mother has the same problem

The drug plan coverage of my father's pension was stopped when this program came into affect and now she has to pay thousands of dollars for her cancer medication where it use to cost only a couple of bucks per prescription.

I think that was the hidden agenda of the legislation. To stop all these widows from getting these great prescription drug plans that were promised to their husbands in exchange for their labor. Corporate America saves billions by dis-enrolling these widows. Of course AARP didn't mention it as a benefit.

5. I haven't heard yet how this has affected

seniors in PA where the lottery picks up (or at least did) the bill for meds. I remember my grandfather never had to pay more than $10 for anything he had to take...and he lived to be 92 so you can imagine the meds he was on.

I just can't believe that ANYONE could put the spin on this program that the majority of people on it are 1)actually being helped by it 2)have had no problems with it and 3)are happy with it.
