OK-explain to me why Conyers trumps Iran in story placement on CNN
http://www.cnn.com/
"Congressman accused of using staff to baby-sit"
comes before
"U.N. presses Iran on nuclear plans
Watchdog chief in Tehran for talks in intensifying dispute"

are they so desperate to find some kind of dirt on Democrats?

1. because Conyers is a bigger threat to the regime.
Karl's orders are to neutralize him immediately. This one seems to be mainly a CNN effort.

Totally. In Detroit, his home district, this story surfaced a few weeks ago and quickly died, because they realized nobody gives a damn.

13. Becuz for a Dem to challenge Repub "values"-better be squeeky clean

It's getting to the point where the (Dem) J'accuser has to be an absolute saint in all things before they deign to point a finger. That's what.

3. With all the dirt coming out on Republicans they have to slam Democrat
You know, it's the balance thing.

Republican: Massive corruption, bribery and abuse of power.

Democrat: Made a staffer watch his kid for an hour or two.

You see, they're all alike!

I wouldn't have known if you hadn't put them next to each other like that. Now I see why there is no difference between the dems and the repubs :sarcasm:

6. So it looks like there's a sort of agreement to pick off black caucus
members. McKinney, Jefferson, Conyers--the same way there was an agreement to pick off Joe Wilson and his wife and her CIA colleagues. (I would call it a "conspiracy").

(When I think of the fact that a REPUBLICAN judge I know routinely had his SECRETARY taking his mentally-disabled daughter shopping, etc.)

Sounds like they're desperate.

8. Two reasons:
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 07:17 AM by femmedem
1. They'll discredit anyone, of any ethnicity, who fearlessly speaks the truth about them. Remember what they said about Scott Ritter?

2. They especially love to discredit liberal blacks, because those stories fit their right wing base's racist world view. If the threat of impeachment doesn't motivate their supporters, maybe indignation over lying, cheating, undeserving uppity blacks will.

And yes, I know I'm conflating the media and the administration into one big "they."

And no, I'm not calling Conyers lying, etc. I adore him.

I meant this as a reply to the OP! I'm forever scrolling down to all the posts, then hitting reply. Sorry.

14. allow?
I don't know, but I'll give you some first hand experience in pretty much the same situation.

My boss "dumps" her kid on me. Ten y.o. spoiled rotten little twit. Then she'll leave the store for an hour or more. I'm expected (with out being asked) to baby sit her friggin kid. Not in my job description. But you know what? I can't afford to lose my job either. So, I shut up and put up with it.

I'm not saying this is what happened w/Conyers, but if it is, I find it to be complete BS to do that to your employees. We'll have to wait and see what happens I guess. I hope this wasn't the case. And if it was, does it matter? Was he breaking the law in any way?

15. They have not let go of the McKinney thing
yet, they are trying to make a big deal about what her body guard did...The Dems need a quick response team to support those being attacked, and to put these accusations where they belong, in the trash...

Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 08:17 AM by alyce douglas
this media has to go, just like the jerk who is sitting in the WH. Keep the public uninformed and stupid. They can take their propaganda and shove it. Plus these thugs just like to smear people, and boy do they have a long list, Joe Wilson and His Wife, Cynthia McKinney now Conyers, but their list of worthless thugs is longer. Everyday someone in their house gets slap with a indictment or sexually assault, or taking or embezzling money. Geez, I hate these people.

18. But Conyers looks bad the way
he's handling this. Walking away from the CNN reporter who says he's been trying to get him to respond to these questions for six weeks is not the way to make this story die either. It is just going to generate more reporter interest.

It's the same way Republicans act when they don't like the questions because there is a problem. They run from the microphones.

Conyers has to have clean hands here for all the major fingerpointing he's doing or he is going to get clobbered by the media and will ramp up this story. Mark my words.

And I love Conyers more than anybody in that House of Representatives. Deal with this John so God forbid, this don't marginalize you.

21. Because...
...of this. My e-mail to CNN:

Positive or Negative???

Positively in favor of Rep. John Conyers! You folks need to back off attacking John Conyers on ethics. Maybe you can't see it, but this is just another 'Swift Boat' style smear campaign designed to destroy his credibility before November Elections. Conyers, as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee will become Chairman of that committee...with subpoena power, if Democrats retake the House in November. Conyers 'could'...if it's decided upon... be the person to start impeachment of President Bush. This smear of his character is SO TRANSPARENT it's ridiculous. Come ON, CNN!!!:patriot:
