Huffington is really scraping the bottom of the barrell with this one.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-smerconish/duke-rape-case-revenge-o_b_19029.html

Here's one little jewel in regards to the Duke rape case:

The "victim" had left a party one night, and met with players (attending summer classes on campus), who invited her back to their house for more partying. The un-named woman admitted to 8 shots of high proof liqueur between 11:30pm and 12:30am. As you might imagine, the woman started to feel sick, and went back to the players' room to vomit in their bathroom. Her blood alcohol content was a whopping .23.

The woman admitted to never having said "No," or offering real resistance to Neal and Cleaves. As the case raged across the headlines and the airwaves, prosecutors contended that the woman was too inebriated to consent to sex, evidenced by her vomiting. Defenders claimed that the sex was consensual and the woman created the allegation out of embarrassment amid gossip from other female basketball players

In November of 2005, a jury acquitted Neal and Cleaves of all charges.
<snip>

I nearly fell out of my chair reading this. I know some people have a problem with the Huffingtonpost site and I usually enjoy the blogs, but I never imagined they'd publish dreck like this! :puke:

1. Smerconish is one of their token conservatives
and he's a total ass. He's on the air here in Philly. But the balance of what's on the HuffPost makes this kind of shit tolerable. There's so much good stuff there I can deal with the shite.

2. If I am ever a rape victim, why should I report it?
This is awful!

3. The author makes some valid points
The gist of the article is that there is an emerging pattern of rape accusations against athletes that get page one nationwide press, and that later prove to be unfounded (or, in the example you quote, result in acquittal) that gets reported in the back pages.

Some of his points in pursuit of his thesis are valid, some are not. The one you posted is one of his more valid examples.

4. Yeah, of course a woman would set herself up to get raped again...
by the media, the defense attorneys and sports fans. Yes, women will accuse men of rape in droves if it's not nipped in the bud. :sarcasm:
