This is truly one of the most blatantly partisan, one-sided valentines I've ever seen masquerading as a "NEWS" story. Scalia's visit to the Hartford area has been reported on in the news media, but I don't think anyone has had the audacity of these two "reporters." My guess is they're interns? I dunno, but if you have a moment, there is no more prime opportunity to write a scathing LTTE reminding the Courant that news belongs in the news section, but this shit belongs in the Sunday magazine, perhaps Walter Scott's Personality Parade...

Interpretations Of Justice Scalia

After U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia spoke at UConn Law School Wednesday, one student described the justice as the legal equivalent of a rock star, a charismatic personality who gave a glimpse into his judicial philosophy.
"He's
like the Mick Jagger of the judicial world," said Ryan O'Donnell, president of UConn's Federalist Society chapter.
As U.S. Supreme Court justices go, Scalia is the closest the highest court has to celebrity, a jurist who has captured headlines for his conservative opinions as well as his sometimes controversial public appearances.
His visit spurred vigorous discussion on the University of Connecticut Law School campus e-mail system for weeks about
his strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. And on Wednesday his visit gave students a chance to meet the man behind the opinions.
Students held relatively tame, but pointed demonstrations outside the Gothic building where Scalia spoke.
Some who had read his sometimes biting opinions were surprised by his sense of humor and his approachability."He seemed to me like
he could be an uncle or a grandfather," said Robert Barbieri,
a member of the student Federalist Society chapter.

Column inch after column inch of "Even those who hate him loved him" comments. Excuse me whilst I offer my strict interpretation of Justice Scalia and the Courant reporters, in the form of a steaming pile of regurgitating breakfast.
