4. Probably
some poor working stiff's lunch. I wondered why a bunch of police cars went past my building heading down Penn towards 16th. Guess I know. Poor DC - first the Supreme Court, now a suspicious package. Emergency services are earning their pay today - just wish they were earning more.

6. Can People Be Prosecuted Or Fined For Things Like This?
If you accidentally leave your briefcase or purse somewhere... and the Park Police or Metro Police, or Secret Service are called in to investigate, is the forgetful person (who owns the mislaid item) actually liable for any costs or damages?

10. Would this be a diversion?
Bush is sinking in the polls, people are realizing his lies, his terrible policies--could this simply be a distraction planted by Rove?

12. The moral of the story about crying wolf is that sooner or later,
the wolf actually does show up and no one responds in time. We will see a major terrorist attack (as opposed to the minor attacks that don't make the national news) sooner or later. It amy or may not be something that we anticipated. I'm willing to bet, though, that it will hit a major metropolitan area and not Back-of-beyond, Whereever that just used Homeland Security funds to buy its police department some brand new shiny toys.

(and for the record, my town is just outside of Back-of-Beyond.)
