CNN: Conyers Ethics Problems
Drew Griffin just ran a long report on Congressman Conyers using staff for campaigning, babysitting, tutoring, and other personal tasks.

Griffin had two former staffers interviewed.

Congressional ethics rules say staffers can't be used for personal tasks....but from what I know of Congress it's common place!!!

One allegation is that he used his legal counsel for a 2+ week babysitting stint.

Apparently Conyers hasn't commented on it, and when Griffin confronted him in the report, Conyers was standoffish, and seemed to basically deny it.

Even if it's true that Conyers has done these things, staffers are often given members' dogs to walk, or children to watch... It seems kinda like a hack job by CNN for something rather minor.

23. They let it slide by...
in the interest of NATIONAL SECURITY - which, when translated means it's good for the corporate bottom line. There are no major networks left that are not owned by conservative corporate conglomerates - which, if one is a Republican, is simply the Amurikan free-market economy working as it should.

... Let's see if we do any better with Conyers...

(crosses fingers)

EDIT: They'll keep taking em down folks, one by one, unless we actually stand up for our reps.

21. And McDermott, too.
They're going after the most progressive people in Congress and the ones that are solidly supported by their constituents.
They know they can't win an election against them, so smear campaigns are all they have.

22. Don't blame the coyote for going after the sheep...
... that's just what coyotes do. Blame instead the farmer for not protecting her flock.

4. What makes CNN the leader in SMARMY today is the fact that
these charges were brought in THE YEAR 2004 and later dropped by the ethics committee.

You know, these nasty Rove-Co butt boys are not even discreet nor measured! They just throw feces at the wall indiscriminately just to see if anything will stick.

Let it go? If we don't bite, it will die out in a RW echo chamber.

5. You might be able to get away with smaller or less frequent things...
Like rides to the airport or something.

But I personally don't know of any staffers who have been asked to do things on a regular basis like that.

9. Maybe that's why Conyers was so pissed about
being confronted on the Hill outside of a hearing room in the report.

violation. I didn't see the report, but this smacks of hypocrisy.

actually start doing some real good. Can't have that.

You commies make like it's a big deal when the President lies to take the nation to war, but when Conyers threatens our way of life by having his lawyer watch his kid you try to sweep it under the rug!

18. Democrats need to be prepared for these things
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 01:47 PM by Vinnie From Indy
Conyers should have simply told the ambushing reporter for CNN that his or her employer is nothing but a lie factory for Bush and he wouldn't comment to such a dishonest network.

Democrats need to start DIRECTLY attacking the dishonesty of the cable and mainstream news outlets and the on air personalities personally.

I couldn't believe it. I haven't seen reporters do that to anyone on the Hill for ages. Were these purveyors of truthiness in Delay's face that way? Ever??
