In Plame Leak Case, Judge Decries Leaks
By Paul Kiel - April 13, 2006, 12:39 PM

<snip>

Oh, irony of ironies.

Judge Reggie Walton, who's overseeing the Scooter Libby investigation, has warned the lawyers in the case that he might issue an order to stop them from leaking information to the press, adding that he will not "tolerate this case being tried in the media."

Any other filings\news going on today?

3. Filing, schmilings...........
That's what defense lawyers do - paper up the case so that the judge has so much crap to wade through, it takes longer and longer, witnesses get forgetful, things get postponed, people die or go missing, shit like that.

Pay absolutely no attention to this kind of nonsense, UNLESS Reggie Walton - who is a superb jurist - makes noise. Then, listen to him, and only to him.

The details in the filings - if anyone out there wastes their time reading them - are mindless, meant only to obfuscate and delay.

I know. I've done it myself. (Although never before Judge Walton. No way. He might be our new Hanging Judge, a la the late, great John Sirica.)

So, pay no attention to those filings. OK?

8. I think that Judge Walton
is turning into what the OVP & Libby forces never imagined -- a firm but fair judge. As Merh has said on the various Plame threads, this is not the type of judge Libby wants.

I'd note that his defense team is very talented, and that they are going to let those who have been sharing information with the right-wing pundits know it is time to stop.

11. InternalDialogue hit right on the head in post# 7
this stopping of leaking should help in fighting the war of disinformation - at least in regards to this scandal.

I can't believe that our fate - the US that is, is in the hands of a few people.

Fitz, Walton, and the Wilson vs the dark side - Darth and company

These are dark days for walking the planet right now, dark days indeed.....

16. "fate of the US is in the hands of a few people:" I disagree. WE ALL can
and should give a hand to pull US out of the morass BushCo has put us in. It's our country, of, by and for US and not of, by and for the rich, the fundies, the neocons.

Do not sit back and be passive or the few hands of Fitz, Walton and Wilson won't be enough against the incompetence, corruption and evil that is BushCo.

On a bright note, a Repub. family member in DC tells me the Repugs are VERY DISORGANIZED. Time to step it up and go for the jugular.

19. I agree, but I think you are over-reaching on my points
this wasn't meant to be the holy word it was just to emphasize the good vs evil aspect.

I totally agree that we all can and do play a part in this and other matters concerning our country.

10. thank you, lawyers, for helping me wade through the muck of this trial
I don't have time to read 54 pgs. of filings or 6000 so it's good to know what's important to read and what can be ignored.

Thanks again.

7. Didja notice, cat_girl25 --
the whole time Fitzgerald was pursuing his investigation, there was nary a peep from anyone on the prosecution side. We had to sit and wait and hope for news. As soon as charges are filed and the * administration has a player in the game, there's leaks out of the courtroom every day. They're like a mold that infects everything once they get in the door.

(No snark about your post -- it just seemed like the most appropriate place for my observation.)

13. If recollection serves, the RW NY Sun had a story and a pdf available
of Fitz's April 5 filing online before the official site did.

How did that happen? Remember the blazing headlines that morning about Bush authorizing the leak of info? And the resulting media storm, with inaccurate headlines and retractions? Whose purposes did that serve to kick up dust and distraction? Not Fitz's team.

20. I was thinking of Fitz's site. Reportedly it wasn't there yet. Don't know
about the pacer site (which obviously is official).

At any rate, no doubt Libby's team has been providing info to media for their own purposes. The Sun ran its story early Thursday morning as I recall which was picked up by the larger media and on Friday had an editorial slamming Fitz. The editorial looked like it could have been written by Libby's defense team.

18. Also
the 4-11 letter from Fitzgerald to Judge Walton, which ended up in the hands of the NY Sun and Brit Hume-oids at Fox. It would have been made public in a short time, but they wanted to attack the NY Times, etc.

I even posted a response asking to wait or find a more credible source.

Seems Team Libby or whoever was desperate the story came out pre-spun.
