1. Because Conyers will be chair of the Judiciary Committee after 2006.

The GOP and Rove are running scared. They know DimSon has an inevitable date with impeachment.

BTW, Charlie Rangel and Hilalry Clinton were also involved with the Watergate investigation.
Mr. Rangel's swiftboating is probably next on Rove's dirty tricks agenda. :(

21. ethics...oh yeah...okay
Should I get my panties in a twist over our current administration's trumping up intelligence to invade a soverign nation, thereby killing over 100,000 inocent civilians and causing the deaths of 2367 US service people; should I bust a blood vessel over our impending war (possibly nuclear) with Iran that could very well trigger world wide death and destruction......

or should I get hot and bothered over someone accusing a US congressman of using taxpayer money to hire a baby sitter for his kids....

What should I worry about more

THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD?

or

CONYERS BABYSITTERGATEBULLFUCKINGSHIT?

I don't think that way, sorry you do. Yes, it's probably overblown, but he's a high profile guy, and if he didn't follow the rules, he should be held accountable, just as everyone else should. think, for a minute, if this was a republican congressman, would you be saying the same thing?

"yes, I violated ethics rules and stole from the American people." of course he said it was a lie, that's fairly meaningless, either way.

3. Because
Congress is out on recess;

it's Holy Week and Passover, so people are preoccupied with families and friends;

no one dares call a Red Alert for fear of being laughed at;

Iraq is worse than ever;

Sy Hersh outed all those bastards;

Scooter Libby just crapped in his own nest and made it bad for the White House (which suggests he's playing his trump card right away, the better to secure a Presidential Pardon);

Cheney has no one to shoot right now since he used up his month's worth of energy throwing out the first ball at the Nats' opener - his "pitch" bounced once before reaching the mound, which proves that CHENEY THROWS LIKE A WUSS;

from today on, for the next week or so, it's nothing but Newsdump Friday, all day, every day;

Karl Rove has gone batshit.

Any more questions?

16. Thanks. Just read last night Sy Hersh's piece on Iran. I like Hersh
already but I like him even better this morning.

I distrusted Bush and Rumsfeld and Cheney already and I absolutely loathe them this morning.

I want somebody to wake up Dick Lugar and get him in front of a microphone and speak against the Chimp's very foolhardy plans on Iran. Ok, it could be that BushCo is bluffing, but they are so unstable that a pressure bluff feels about the same as an operational plan, and the results might be similar.

Lugar's the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commitee, he's running UNOPPOSED in the Indiana U.S. Senate race, and he knows better than to sit quietly by and let a shit-for-brains ninny from Texas bomb a Muslim nation.

20. New Yorker just arrived here yesterday,
and I'm finally getting a chance to settle down with it. Whatever Sy Hersh does, it's dead on, and I'm a rock-solid fan, too.

Lugar - remember when he was Nixon's favorite mayor? Don't expect anything from him.

I suspect all this Iran stuff is diversion, the only thing Rove knows. There's NO WAY we have any kind of resources to attack Iran in any way. Notice how bad it's gotten with the servicepeople in Iraq?

Naw, it's nothing but noise, which is all these ratbastards are good for. Pay no attention, friend. Keep your eye on the main target - what that sonofabitch is doing to our country. Then, if you want something else to hold onto re-read the article about Fuckface's appearance at Johns Hopkins the other day - it's heartening:

24. I will take your good tidings and sound advice. But let me know what
you think of Hersh's NEW YORKER piece, if you have a moment.

On Lugar, yes, Dick Nixon's "favorite mayor." I think the reason Pat Nixon looked like the longest-standing attendee of an opium den had less to do with how cruel politics is to presidents' wives and more to do with Nixon being a repressed homosexual. Got no problem with that in and of itself, but that comment about Lugar (was was younger in those days) always struck me as a public flirtation. Got no proof, just a wild hunch.

Anyway, I'll visit that WaPo site also, and bid you another sincere thanks. I have NOT forgotten your absolutely pristine response regarding the 14-year old suicide some many moons ago on these boards, and it resonates to this hour.

You write like a goddamned genius.

And more power to ya.

30. We're doomed
Sy Hersh doesn't get things wrong.

That article is so profoundly disturbing on so many fronts. The vision of "Dr. Strangelove" just keeps running through my head.

Everything about attacking Iran is wrong, and if we awaken that sleeping giant, Hezbollah, rouse the Al Qaeda, and think we can survive what they'll put out, we're so fucked.

This is all in defense of Israel? Could Fuckface be so apocalyptically insane that he really believes that we are going to attack Iran so as to keep Israel safe?

What's most worrisome is how inbred this whole fucking mess is. Now, it makes sense to have Condi as Sec of State, since she's the old Soviet Union expert, and I fear that these nitwits see the Middle East as they did the Soviet Union - not as individual countries, but as parts of a whole, and if a blast can be taken at the center of that whole, then we can do something with it.

Iran will hand us our heads and our asses. There is a whole America-loving generation coming up in Iran - quite pointedly, Christopher Hitchens wrote about these kids in Vanity Fair a while back - and we put the mullahs in power there by invading Iraq. Iraq was the last secular buffer the Middle East had between Iran and everyone else. The next generation of Iranians, who would have been in power had we not fucked up Iraq, will hate us even more than do the current leaders there.

Well, maybe I won't send in my Estimated Tax Payment, eh, friend? Cancel that regular dental checkup, and drop all that insurance? I mean, if we're headed into that long nuclear winter, I guess I might as well get the mink out of storage.

I was wrong when I said it would never happen. Hersh has too much for me to be able to believe that any longer. Now, it has veered off into "wistful thinking" territory.

Well, at least since I'm only ten minutes from the Pentagon, the good part is that I'm sure my annihilation will be instantaneous.

I hope I'm posting to DU when it happens .................

6. He's getting the Galileo treatment by the GOP-controlled media.
They're trying to shift the attention away from their own considerable scandals and so why not hit the would-be Chair of the Judiciary Committee if the House flips blue in November?

Discredit him now & then he'll be less formidable a personage to subpoena docs later to support articles of impeachment.

Do you believe President Bush's actions justify impeachment? * 237073 responses

Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial.
86%

No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching "high crimes and misdemeanors."
4.4%

No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching.
7.6%

I don't know.

how when it was Cynthia McKinney last week there were plenty of DUers willing to come down hard on her...where are the outraged DUers to berate Conyers for using his female staff as babysitters?

I'm not on either side of this...I'm just pointing out the disparity.

31. Question: EVEN if he DID do this....
Did it or did it not add value to his job?

If it allowed him to attend a session of congress, etc, that he would have not been able to...would it not be money well spent?

I know I could justify something like this on an expense report....
