DU, I hope your in it for the long run...
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 05:22 PM by jsamuel
Lets face it... Even if we win the House back in November, we will still only have a slight majority. The Senate is less likely, but even if we won that too, we have to wait a total of 4 more years to fully cycle the Senate. A presidency always accomplishes more with 2 terms than with one. Even if we win in 2008, we will have to keep fighting all the way through to 2012. Then, the Repubs will want the WH back. They will want to undo all the progress made. So we will have to fight hard to keep someone with Democratic principles in office again. All through this time we will need to keep winning House and Senate elections, state elections, local elections, the war on education, and the battle to keep the media on track.

Things aren't going to get better in November. November will only be a start and only if we make it so. It will take years to fix the wrongs and years on top of that to improve our lives and our country. But I'm in it for the long run.

3. If the Dems win the House in November...
Bush will probably get his first veto. It's doubtful anything will be accomplished until at least 2009.

7. One of the big mistakes people made in '92
was that woo-hoo we won! Game over.

I remember telling friends the day after the election that the hard work was just beginning and sort of got puzzled looks from them.

We'll fall into the same trap if we have big or slight gains in November.

8. Several thoughts
#1 - Even if we win in 2006 (both Chambers), we have to continue the 50 state strategy.
#2 - We can not just rest after winning. Here are issues that need addressing :
a) Electronic voting
b) Media - either deal with MSM or create our own
#3 - Get rid of DINOs and corrupt members of our party.
#4 - DO NOT get drunk with power. (no Tom DeLay "effectiveness")
#5 - Studies need to be done on deregulation and privatization, and Dems need to inform and educate the American people on what is working and what isn't.
#6 - Our leadership in both Chambers need to do a better job at listening to our base and implementing projects and plans most Americans can agree with. They have to share a vision of improving our country that honors work over wealth and protects our middle class.
