Bush Attacks, Reid Counterpunches
Bush Attacks, Reid Counterpunches
by Steve Soto

President Bush accused Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid on Thursday of "single-handedly thwarting"action on immigration legislation, and got a brisk retort in return.

"President Bush has as much credibility on immigration as he does on Iraq and national security," shot back the Nevada Democrat.

It’s that simple. That’s all Democrats have to do. Punch back and hit hard. Every time Bush mouths off, hit him in the face rhetorically on his credibility and competence.

1. Exactly!
Fact based. Short and "sweet"!!!

If enough of them would do this, there would be too many to be countered.

5. unfortunately the REALITY of the RW fascist media has once again
demonstrated the perhaps insurmountable problem the dems have:

just a few moments ago, CNN had on Mehlman, talking pretty much uninterruptedly for quite some time, without any rebuttal that I saw. one of his chief assertions was how Reid was playing politics over the immigration bill

did the interviewer ask ONE question about the reality of the situation? what do you think?
He went on and on about that and other topics, apparently without refuatation.

dems face a media wholly in the pocket of this crooked regime, and it's going to be very hard to get their message out

7. Very true, but first...
...you have to workout what the Shrubmonkey said.

This may turn out to be the Repubs greatest strength against criticism: Bushboy just spouts incoherencies and the rest of us are left saying "hang on, what?"

Why are Dems scared of in the face rhetoric...!? It should happen all the time.. It's an election winner... which will stick to peoples mind when they vote.

It has to start now..

23. Bush's War, Bush Regime, Neocon's War, etc....
Shame so many dems authorized the use of force, ala Kerry/Edwards, which totally undermines their credibility..

In 2004, I wish Kerry/Edwards would have said, "Look, we voted for the ware because we trusted our president. We trusted that he and his administration were telling the truth. We realize now that this is not the case. Knowing what we know now, we would not have authorized the use of force."

God how I wished they would have said that.

34. Our President is a nut
Kerry let the repubes frame the issue. He should have replied, first the Republicans voted against it then they voted for it. They voted for the American people footing the entire bill without compensation for the Iraq liberation. Halliburton is their money laundry. Our President is a nut.

24. We should always punch back

It’s that simple. That’s all Democrats have to do. Punch back and hit hard. Every time Bush mouths off, hit him in the face rhetorically on his credibility and competence.

We (and our dem leaders especially) must hit back each and every time shut mouth opens up...

In the UK they have a shadow Government which responds to absolutely everything the sitting Government says. The media always looks for the oppositions comments, unlike here, where the media gets away with being one sided.

Brusquely discount their dishonest assumptions, replace them with damning truths, and, to quote Harry Truman, they'll think it's hell.

They need to really rev up the counterpunches and keep them consistently strong, concise, on message and ballsy. I'm hoping we start seeing ballsy incidents like the closed senate session on a daily basis.

38. again Reid stopped short
"President Bush has as much credibility on immigration as he does on Iraq and national security," shot back the Nevada Democrat.

He should have added..."He needs to go back to his bottle and stop trying to act as if he knows what he's doing..."

39. Reid shows backbone. i've always said that we D's have to stand
up to the lies and obfuscations that the bush admin tosses out there as 'truth'.

Just call them what they are, lying baboons and point out the lies with the truth. It is easy. Fencing with rhetoric is easy when you use the truth.

Look, this war is a fiasco, (what war isn't); the economy is in shambles; immigration of illegals is a serious problem; outsourcing is killing the country; tax reform put the burden on the middle class; the national debt is the final nail in the coffin...and most D's don't pound home these issues. If there were more like Reid, there would be NO R's in Congress and the WH would be vacant until the next election.

Allowing R's to control the debate w/nothing but attacking those that don't agree w/them has led to a self destructive United States. We need to hammer home the glaring failures of the GOP dominated government. They can't blame the Dems...they own the whole shebang...all failure is in the hands of the GOP, it is that simple.

41. Not me
At least Daschle won a few victories here and there. All Reid's ever done is flap his lips- and then back down.

As far as I'm concerned- Harry doesn't have much credibility left at this point either. Maybe once he actually defeats a significant piece of legislation- or blocks some extremist nominee- or disciplines his DINO's when they sell us out, I'll think differently.
