I hate to sound defeatist, BUT
If Rumsfeld is fired and/or resigns, Bush will just replace him with someone much, much worse.

Such is the pattern.

So what would be gained?

1. I'm not sure if they'd be worse...
but they sure as hell would think neo-con. These people hate the military.

2. the perception of their increasing weakness eventually becomes...
...reality, so let the dominoes keep falling! Cheney and Rumsfeld gotta go, and then we work on Dim Son!

3. It does seem like a hollow victory
However, if we have to pick them off, one at a time, then that is what we have to do.
Same thing if we were able to get Bush and/or Cheney out...there is a long line of people who have to go in order to get our country out of the cold claws of the neocons.
One at a time. I can live with that.

4. Someone who is more aware of the reality of what's going on
in Iraq, or who has more compassion?

This will be a blow to the blivet, to admit he made a mistake by sticking with rummy won't be a good thing for him.

I wonder who would 'want' this job. I'm sure there are people out there, but the worm is turning, as are opinions on the reasons to have started this war in the first place. I hope someone with some common sense might qualify.

8. 'to admit he made a mistake by sticking with rummy'

Every cloud has a silver lining. Reacting to generals' criticism, changing horses in mid-quagmire, looking weaker and less competent to lead himself: these will all reflect poorly on the criminal-in-chief.

6. There is nobody worse, and if he's replaced,
the replacement will be a Rumsfeld shill -- probably a neocon who hasn't been exposed as such.

HOW DO WE GET RUMSFELD, INTO THE SPELL CHECKER!!?? :silly:

7. as someone on KO pointed out, it is not the person but the policy
that needs change. Dumping rummy will not do jack shit to change the neocon agenda. :(

11. So maybe these generals need to contribute their minds to the
cause, and give us their opinions on another course? I think that's what Kerry, Murtha, etc., have been advertising. They have talked to active-duty men in the field and know they aren't happy, another course is crucial.

16. 'secrecy agreements'
are probably signed by anyone within ear shot of the cabal's farts. I really think this is about Iran.

10. Turnover is good.
I'm willing to go through one Secretary of Defense a week. Same with Secretary of State, and everyone lined up to replace Bush when he is ousted.

One at a time.

12. Nothing, but many of us here at D.U. know * wont replace Rumsfeld, so.....
let the calls for rummy replacement become a catacomb of noise. The policies are of the entire cabals anyway.

But if you were to ask me, centering in on Rumsfeld is a good strategy , he does the most elaborate shrill wines of all of them when cornered :D
