More Americans feel US should mind its own business: poll
1 hour, 16 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Nearly half of Americans believe their government should mind its own business internationally and only one third approves of how US President George W. Bush is handling Iraq, a USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll says.

Bush's rating, which rose from 32 percent in September to 39 percent in the ensuing months, has fallen back to 32 percent in the latest survey, the USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll said.

Amid growing opposition to the US-led war in Iraq, the number of Americans who think the United States "should mind its own business internationally and let other countries get along as best they can on their own," has risen from 33 percent to 46 percent over the past three years, the poll said.

The pollsters said their April 7-9 survey reflected similar results during the Vietnam War, when only 20 percent of Americans said their country should mind its own business in 1964, one year before the war began, compared to 40 percent who thought so in 1972, when the Vietnam War was in full swing.

1. I know for a fact a lot of that 46%
are Republicans. I think the isolationist wing of the party will make a come back.

2. minding our own business does not mean dropping out of social
concerns such as enviroment treaties, international law etc. I think people know the difference.

5. People who can grasp that stuff IS our business, yeah....
Stuff that affects the entire planet will continue to be our business, as would a LEGITIMATE threat. Stealing oil or marching around in what Bush seems to think of as a game with toy soldiers......not so much...

6. Even if the US actions are covert.
and war is transparent, I fear as somc CIA ex agents wrote in Blowback. The US government is nosing about for the interests of multi nationals; making enemies who eventually will blowback against the US. Then the chief executive will start fanning the flames about the evil doers again and again. And the pattern repeats itself. Did we not learn a thing from the Church investigations in the 70's.
