DUers who lurk in freeperville-a question-
This morning is the first time I every went to that site that wasn't a link from here at DU. What got me stirred up is this thread from yesterday here at DU.

"Want to *hear* why I really cannot stand Ed Schultz?"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=926549

This is my question-

Do the freepers engage in this kind of stupidity - where they eat their own young?

People who do radio talk shows are more often than not uncharitable to each other. They look at every other host as competition and either say nothing at all or be ugly. None of them are perfect but having left wing voices on the air in a range of moderate to rabid is one of the best developments in this decade. I don't get many of them as I am a Sirius subscriber and when they wimpped out and lost Air America they lost a lot. Sirius had Radio Left and AirAmerica which gave them a hugh share of progressive talk.

That leaves me Alex Bennent, who is a real bitch and a waster of air time on nothing at all; Lynn Samuels, another waster of air and my time - both will say something of note now and again; a scant Thom Hartman, a real treasure on the radio and then Big Eddie Schultz. Schultz likely puts some people off because his voice and phrasing are remarkably like the limpster. That may be a plus along with his love of hunting and fishing that enable him to draw leftward some fence sitters. There are a lot of men that I work with who voted for Bush because the are/were convinced that the Dems where going to take their guns away.

1. Some don't like Hannity. They think he's a bufoon.

But I don't think I've ever seen a thread that called a radio personality out like over here. But then again, I try not to lurk over there for too long. I start feeling sick after a few minutes.

Then there are the RINOs that they complain about like McCain, Snowe and Hagel.

2. Did you listen to the audio?
he was being a total dick. Ed's shooting hisself in the foot, here. Radio hosts can get away with alot more than other public figures, but if you feed off of controversy, expect some backlash.

5. But a lot of people here criticized Ed long before that post.
Personally, I like Schultz. He's a bit more conservative than me, but we are a big tent party, after all.

And I know this may be sacrilege to many people, but I can't really listen to Malloy for very long. Sorry.

7. I think some folks should go back and listen to the audio before
making off the wall judgments.

Ed shot himself in the foot for sure!

8. Yes, I agree that he was acting like a dick, but...
He also gives a radio outlet to strong liberal/Democratic politicians like Barbara Boxer, Russ Feingold, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy. Yes, he used to be a rightie, but he converted after he married his wife Wendy. Apparently she made him see the light, politically speaking.

Perhaps Ed's a dickhead in real life. But his show can be entertaining, and he publicizes a lot of good liberal causes. And he connects well with segments of the population that traditional liberals have a hard time getting their message to. So I'm willing to cut him some slack.

3. Oh, yes.
They live and breath Limbaugh et al so it's really no wonder they sound just like them in their "arguments".
They never cease to astound me with their brand of "humanity" (not Hannity):)

4. I have a different question...
How the hell do you follow any threads? It's the most convoluted, effed up site I've ever seen! What do they do with all that money they raise? Certainly it doesn't go to programmers or designers!

10. 4 now
It's taking me forever as I don't post very often. This business about attacking our own is something that is worth a few posts. When I went to freeper land they have a radio forum- it did not look like there was any self destructive behavior going on. I didn't lurk long but nothing stood out like I've seen here. I don't think that there is a single Progresive radio host who has not been slammed at DU except Thom Hartman. Randi used to get the treatment regularly.

As progresive, liberal thinking people we are never going to be in lockstep with each other. But we have got to learn to live with and love one another. The neo-facists have one thing on us- they remain together while we scatter to be devoured by wolves one by one.

12. the Republican party has been hijacked
The Republican party is unique because part of their base is made up of soldiers. Dissent in the military isn't tolerated, as it could put lives in jeopardy.

The other day I referred to my brother, a career military man, as a "Bushie". He was obviously pissed, and said "I am not a Bushie, I am a Republican there is a difference. As an active duty soldier I refuse to criticize my government".

I was comparing the two parties the other day. Democrats look weaker because people are more apt to speak their mind. Republicans appear stronger because they don't allow dissent.

Personally, I prefer to negotiate within the confines of the party, but I am not going to comprise my morals doing it.
