"Commander in Chief" groping for life (ABC series) SLIGHT SPOILERS

It’s a real letdown, with ludicrous story lines, hokey dialogue and unsatisfying relationships between President Mac Allen (Davis) and the men in her life.

Let’s start with the incident involving the first gentleman (Kyle Secor). I don’t know why, but “first lady” sounds fine while “first gentleman” sounds like something out of Monty Python. Anyway, while leaving a political event, the first fella stumbles and gropes for something to keep his balance. What should he find but the breast of a pretty young intern as a nearby bank of photographers snap away.

Cut to next morning around the first breakfast table. A picture of the alleged groping has become front-page news around the country. Madame president is furious! The first husband is dumbfounded. Talk of the imminent State of the Union address is replaced by talk of a brewing scandal involving a White House spouse and a blond Lewinsky.

I’m going out on a limb here, but: This would never happen. Ever. Yeah, I get that “Commander in Chief” is one of those what-if shows, but I draw the line at things that aren’t even in the realm of possibility. The show’s writers make a big deal out of a still photograph, as though this were Abu Ghraib instead of A Boob Grab. But in real life, the press would watch the much sillier video of the pratfall (that is, what we see) and punt to the nation’s late-night comedians.

1. Well, that's one opinion, I guess, but I LIKED the show last night!

It has the ability to make you HATE the Speaker of the House, admire the female President, and realize what it MIGHT be like if an Independant ever did win the WH...no support from ANYBODY but the voters!

2. Last Nights "Chief" Is Best Summed Up By RFK's Line...

'Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not.'"

The show is based on the latter.

3. This show is utter drivel when compared to the

magnificent, and optimistically realistic "West Wing". I say shame on the corporate shills who are trying to fob "Commander in Chief" off as a replacement for it.

4. Heard that this is the third version of some form of creative control

over the show . . . yet another "revision" . . .

ABC must have been giving too much pressure on the show to make the Repukes less of villains . . .

...and really add nothing to the plot line, if and when there is one other than good (Genna Davis)vs evil (Sutherland).

5. I Kinda Like The Show - I Really Like Donald Sutherland As An Actor But...

to always have him as the bad guy in this show - will get old real fast.

West Wing uses/used interesting world situations to build their plot around and bring/brought in the actors to broaden out the situation.

But to always have Sutherland up against Davis - seems to formulaic and stale. That's where this show faulters.

Thursday nights. I liked the shows I saw. It showed a competent and talented President. She found 'out-of-the-box' solutions for international problems rather than 'nuke 'em'.
