5. Here is what the article says...
The White House also released the 2005 tax return filed by the Cheneys. They reported adjusted gross income of nearly $8.82 million, which was largely the result of exercising stock options that had been set aside in 2001 for charity.

snip:
The Cheneys donated just under $6.87 million to charity from the stock options and royalties from Mrs. Cheney’s books. That left about $1.9 million in income on which the Cheney’s owed $529,636 in taxes.

Over the year, the Cheneys paid $2,468,566 in taxes through withholding and estimated tax payments. As a result, the Cheneys are entitled to a refund of $1,938,930.

4. Yup! Here's the math!
$8.8M in income
$6.9M donated to charity
$1.9M taxable income

$529k taxes due
$2.4M taxes paid
$1.9M refund due

I wonder what charity they donated to?

Cheney Cardiovascular Institute; and the University of Wyoming, for the benefit of the University of Wyoming Foundation.

14. The overpayment
was probably the result of automatically withholding from their stock option exercising. Even though they gave the money to charity, the company probably automatically withheld anyway which created the massive overpayment of their taxes.

11. He "earned" 10 times as much as Buxh....
And paid just over twice as much in taxes.
Maybe he should set Buxh down and explain the "trickle down theory" to him again.

Good advertisment against making the tax cuts permanent.
I'd sure like to place a bet against any of that money making to any charity too.
