While petitioning today a woman identified herself as a Bushit
supporter because she is Christian ( no suprise). What is a continued surprise is the total disconnect between 'all that is happening' and Bushit being responsible? She just didn't get any connection.The owman is in her late 60's and thought that he wasn't doing a good job and it was 'too much' for ONE person??

6. It is your basic sticker from the DNC
White background black letters that says DEM with a registration number showing you support the DNC financially. Nothing sarcastic.

4. They are going ape. Cheney shooting a guy, Scalia flipping
somebody off I've noticed in some general forums that Bushcist regulars have gone AWOL--
I'm guessing they're too drunk to find their way to their keyboards.

5. When delusional people are confronted with concrete evidence
their cherished beliefs are bogus, they can often get dangerous. There is a LOT of evidence hitting a lot of fans around the world. The delusional are gonna be trouble as they suffer through truth.

Be careful out there. Pick your battles carefully and watch your backs.

10. Resolving Cognitive Dissonance can be very painful.
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 05:40 PM by BrklynLiberal

In brief, the theory of cognitive dissonance holds that contradicting cognitions serve as a driving force that compels the mind to acquire or invent new thoughts or beliefs, or to modify existing beliefs, so as to minimize the amount of dissonance (conflict) between cognitions.

<snip>

An example of cognitive dissonance is the phenomenon known as buyer's remorse, in which a consumer becomes conflicted, after the fact, with the issue of whether or not their decision to make a purchase was, indeed, a wise one. (I guess this also applies when one 'buys into' a bad President as well)

<snip>

This conflicted state of mind will, necessarily, seek to attain psychological consonance, i.e. a balance between competing cognitions.

<snip>

Festinger proposed that cognitive dissonance is a "negative drive state", a similar psychological tension to hunger and thirst and that people will seek to resolve this tension.

Reduction of cognitive dissonance may be good because one feels better, and because one can come closer to consonance by eliminating contradictions. On the other hand some of the ways of reduction of cognitive dissonance involve a distortion of the truth, which may cause wrong decisions.

When confronted with two belief cognitions that contradict each other, Festinger suggests the dissonance can be resolved by finding and adding a third piece of information relevant to the two beliefs.

11. Thanks for the info
I am going to do more research on this. They are conflicted b/t him being a good christian all that is going on..it's easier to beat the same drum then try (as painful as it maybe) to resolve) it

9. Remember, they're not all like her. A significant block of * "supporters"
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 05:18 PM by patrice
are people who are more like fans of celebrities or fans of famous persons who are "winners", like Survivor fans.

This is a pretty large, but shallow, group. They don't really care about him personally, nor most of talk of "rapture" and they don't know very much. They don't really want Armageddon (sp?), but they can be duped into it for sure, because they don't pay attention and are defeatist about Democracy and many are just plain ir-responsible.
