What's your political fantasy?
Mine is the entire Bush admin in prison, John Conyers as head of the Judiciary Committee, Feingold as President, Tammy Baldwin (my rep) as VP.

But maybe I'm dreaming too small...

4. I'm too pissed off.
I don't talk about MY political fantasy because I begin to spew vile invective and insane suggestions.

So I fold my hands in a dignified manner and say, "I hope they don't cornhole us again in 2008 (bright smile, slightly assymetric nod of the head)."

5. A Bartlett administration for the next eight years...
Goes straight from Bill Clinton to Jed...

the bush regime was a horrible nightmare and when I woke up, Jed was president. Kind of like Bobby Ewing on Dallas.

Hey, you asked for my political fantasy...that's what it is :)

The Bush leakers and conspirators and justice obstructors in the slammer -- I'm with you all the way on that one.

Bill Moyers as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. I'd sack the rest of the justices except Ginsberg and Souter and for the remaining 6 spots, I'd go with John Lewis, Alexis Herman, Bill Bradley, Birch Bayh, Charlie Rangel, and Barbara Mikulski.

Mario Cuomo as president. I'd settle for Kerry, Gore, and several others. Barbara Boxer as VP.
Robert Redford at Interior.

John Edwards for HUD.

Sec. of State: Kerry, Gore, George Mitchell

Feingold for AG.

Defense? Dissolved. See 'Department of Peace' below.

Department of Peace: Wes Clark.

Secretary for the Creative Arts: Kathleen Sebelius

Commerce: Dick Durbin

CIA Chief: Gary Hart

U.N. Ambassador: Pat Schroeder

Homeland Security: dissolved & returned to previous organizational model

Sec. of Labor: Dennis Kucinich

Etc.

Just wild-associating here in the liberal garden. Reserve the right to change my fantasy at a future time.

Appreciate your giving us a chance to play this game. Lotsa fun!

8. The public finally hits their brick wall
My political fantasy is for Americans to wake up as if someone just threw a bucket of cold water in their face. I want them to look around and scream until their throats are raw, "What the fuck happened here?!" I want the people as a whole to develop a spine and throw out the plutocrats of both parties keeping them blind and hungry. I want to see the current regime on the run from their citizenry, dragged out of their "spider holes" and made to wear sodden briefs while eating doritos for the camera. I want to see diebold machines smashed to bits and their holding companies liquidated with the seized funds spread about the states they abused. I want to see PNAC declared the terrorist organization that it is, its founders incarcerated, tried before the world, and all things willing, perhaps hanged for their crimes against humanity. Their funds would then go towards rebuilding hte countries that they have broken.

My fantasy is for people to care. Change is worthless if the people witnessing it are indifferent and apathetic. We could drag Bush out on every lie, deception, and crime he's ever made, and if the people as a whole don't give a damn, we'll just get another one like him in the office. It's my ultimate shame as an American that it oftentimes looks as if our collective fire has gone out. We need to rekindle that sucker!

9. The United States holding Nuremberg-style trials
The result of which sends Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, and Rice to Guantanamo Bay, where they're subject to the tortures they tried to justify. Also the people who helpd sell this war are pulled off the air (Robertson, Falwell, O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, and Coulter all also wind up going to federal prison), Fox News is shut down, and we hold public conservative book burnings.

15. 8 Years of Gore-Feingold would be a nice start. Then, a SPHC system.
A recommittment to the bill of rights along with an amendment to the constitution permanently enshrining a right to privacy and bodily integrity - meaning, that it's not any of the government's fucking business what consenting adults do with their own bodies. Withdrawl from Iraq, a de-funding of the drug war, releasing or paroling non-violent offenders from prison to make room for the truly violent and Ken Lay, legalizing, regulating, and taxing marijuana, paring the M/I complex down to a sane size. Reinstating and expanding the intelligence reforms of the 1970s started under Senator Church- getting some REAL fucking answers about the Kennedy assasination as well as more recent lies we've been fed. An end to granting ever-increasing rights for corporations while restricting them for individuals. Reinstatement of the fairness doctrine and media ownership rules eviscerated under Reagan. A liveable minimum wage, along with REAL help for working moms like they have in Europe. Paying down the deficit via de-funding some of the idiocy outlined above, along with closing corporate tax loopholes and increased taxes on anyone making over $1,000,000 a year. A science-based space exploration, expansion and peaceful utilization program that is once again the envy of a world we are not afraid to work with. Real environmental regulation, along with a manhattan-style project to end our dependence on foreign oil. Recognition in our educational system that evolution and global warming are FACTS, and tough luck if you don't like 'em.

That'd be a start.

Also, I want them stripped of their assets as part of their sentencing with the money used to start paying off the national debt they have incurred. I guess that would leave Babs, Laura and the twins penniless, but maybe those girls will have to get jobs to support mom and grandma.

24. My political fantasy:
The 2-party system is no more. A variety of parties exist to represent a multitude of perspectives. All elections are 100% publicly financed, with no donations from anyone anywhere allowed. Votes are cast on paper ballots. All candidates are given equal air time, and neutral press coverage. Churches are either no longer tax exempt, or no longer allowed to preach politics from the pulpit. We use proportional representation in the House and Senate. The President is elected by popular vote.

The U.S. is no longer a capitalist, corporate-run republic, but a social democracy.

The politicians who are in office are those who work for the people, to make sure that the U.S. is a thriving hive of social and economic justice.

35. A new world Order
Wars not ever a part of this earth. All countries signed on to the new order, and
a shift of consciousness has occurred so that such signings are merely ceremonial.

The world is no longer run by "how much money or possessions one can acquire"..
It is now points that are given out/earned for people and countries. Points are acquired
by the amount of a positive contribution the individual and/or company gives back
to its community, country and the planet. Points are not used to "buy things"...they
are used to determine who deserves promotion in leadership positions, in all aspects
of life.

All resources are shared, everyone is provided for in some fashion. (HA!
but you can't call it socialism cause there's no such thing as money)

OK. I'm done. Just made that up. Don't know how it would all work. But hey, couldn't
be worse than Earth today.

37. Bush V Gore overturned--Supreme Court says "Sorry about that, Folks"
Unassailable proof surfaces that the Republicans cheated in the 2000 elections. The Supreme Court reverses its ruling and Gore is declared the rightful president.

George Bush and Dick Cheney are arrested when their plane develops engine trouble en route to Dubai and is forced to stop in Spain. They are sent to the Hague for to be tried for War Crimes.

Secretary of State John Kerry raises the expected objections at the UN but makes a statement that the rule of law applies internationally and that Bush and Cheney will receive a free trial.

The Supreme Court, under new Chief Justice Bill Clinton, agrees that a former American President can be tried for war crimes by an international tribunal.

Republicans organize a boycott of Spanish olive oil.

Vice President Howard Dean draws fire when he is observed at the Burlington Vermont COSTCO purchasing a case of Spanish olive oil. He states that "Bush & Cheney are right where they belong and Spanish olive oil is terrific stuff--besides I got 25% off--only a Republican would buy olive oil at full price--you can't trust Republicans with your money."

Opinion polls agree 3-1 that Bush and Cheney do belong in prison--although most would prefer to see them tried in the U.S.--where they could face the death penalty.

The RNC convention is held at a defunct dog track in Boca Raton because the Republican Party's legal fees have gotten so out of hand they couldn't affort a real convention center.

Senate Minority Leader John McCain tells the GOP "If you guys had voted for me in 2000 we wouldn't be in this *@#! mess."

38. Everyone votes
1. Voter registration and turnout averages 96%
2. All elections are publicly financed - no private contributions permitted.
3. Parent Teacher days are National holidays
4. Executive pay cannot exceed 20 times the lowest paid worker in a company.
5. Salaries over 10 times the minimum wage are taxed at increasingly higher rates.
6. A new classroom must be added to a district for each prison cell built in the same district.
7. Trade agreements have reciprocal fair labor and environmental practices.
8. Companies that pollute and ravage would be responsible for cleanup and renewal.
9. "Green" companies would be rewarded with free marketing opportunities and other incentives.
10. Universal health care would be standard and unattached to employement.

As much as I adore our progressive leaders, I believe we must move away from a "personality" centered discussion. If the ten points above were reality, we would have great leaders, de facto. I think. I hope.
