24 American casualties yesterday. Where's the US "media"?
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 06:57 AM by LynnTheDem
Just wondering.

Or are 24 American casualties in one day not worth a front page or even a first paragraph?

MFers.

3. With "support" like that, our men & women don't need FOREIGN enemies.
They have more than enough DOMESTIC enemies; the US "government", the US "media", the US rightwingnuttery...

7. There are more than 6. The media is keeping quiet on that, as well.
Thing is, there is no media in America.

Americans mocked the Russians for their Pravda, their government propaganda, their government's domestic spying. Heh. Guess who's laughing now.

And at least the Russians KNEW everything their government spewed was propaganda.

4. They're embedded so deeply and have become "one" with the
military. I doubt we'll ever see them again.

6. Obviously the media supports the troops by not talking about them
I heard this mentioned as no more than 2 sentences on the CBS evening news. And yeah, they basically had someone on the ground to give a play-by-play on the tragic bear attack.

9. There are probably 24 American casualties every day
The only odd thing here is that they appear to come from the same engagement.

10. Zero - Nada - Zelch - Nothing
Is the Iraq war totally insignificant? Is Donald Rumsfeld news more important than our men in real battle?

Why is the quality and state of affairs in Iraq being unacknowledged?

Are we a nonentity?

20. Only the agenda is important, all other sundry items can be
ignored. The liberal media is out to get you, they want to steal your future, treasury, take away your parents meds, draft your children, ignore your highways, outsource your jobs, pollute your air, poison foreign countries, and charge you three something a gallon for gas. Damn liberal media, when will they give it up????

11. Why would the MSM want to wake people from their lethargy?
So people could learn the true horror of war? A simple platitude every week, where some disassociated names are flashed across the tube for 25 seconds is all the drones need.

I mean, shit, what do you want? Americans to start a serious effort to get our troops home???

12. It's not just the media
It's a general disconnect and disinterest on the part of the American people. That includes DU. Threads about military deaths in Iraq or Afghanistan usually fade away quickly with few responses. As someone else pointed out, there are probably 24 casulties everyday in Iraq. If there'd been 24 deaths, it would have been all over the media.

13. The US media is us.
My local chapter of the Veterans For Peace keeps the issue of silence on our front burners. We have an ongoing Cancel My (Boston) Globe campaign.

We're vocal, and pissed.

Thank you for all your good work at icasualties.org, LTD. It's heartbreaking to read the numbers; I can only imagine the personal cost to report those sad numbers.

Peace.

I think it is disgraceful that the casualties are ignored by the corporate owned media.

16. Cause they can't walk and chew gum ...
at the same time ...

The media has the ability to carry maybe two main stories at time, and are such a pack of followers that they all flock to the same gall darn story cause they are more worried about being safe and not missing out than taking a chance and going their own direction ...

Add that in with the CORPORATE factor ... Well, there was a big break in the Natalie Holloway case, agian ...

24. I saw coverage on CNN yesterday
Not terrifically in-depth, from what I recall, but not ignored, either. It may have been the second item after the story about calls for Rumsfeld's resignation.

I don't watch a lot of TV news but it struck me that the overall tone toward bushco on CNN was quite negative compared to what I've seen up until recently.
