<snip>
Meridian employees of Michaels of Oregon line up to leave the parking lot after being told to go home early Friday. On Thursday, 200 workers learned they were being let go, there jobs will soon be done overseas.

Workers at Michaels of Oregon say their boss let them go home early because many are so upset. Employees say their jobs will soon be going overseas.

The staff members NewsChannel 7 spoke with today said they were given the news yesterday. And that close to 250 people will soon be unemployed.

A steady stream of vehicles left Michaels of Oregon at 11 a.m. Employees said they were given the rest of the day off. But the reason behind the short day had many workers upset.

2. This had already happened
bigtime in the UK. It's quite disgusting especially as the workers in Asia wherever are on shit wages working appalling hours. It's the corporate fat boys who soak up the profits - never reflected in lower prices to end users.

Despite the fact I'm english the world ended in effect when Converse shut your last factory.

3. This is such a shame...
I work for a call center supporting broadband cable customers internet connection problems and I went to college to work in IT so I wouldn't have to deal with jobs going overseas but with alot of companies like Dell, Gateway, Norton sending jobs to India and what have you I no longer have job security in my field anymore either. It just SUCKS so I am thinking of going back to college and getting a teaching degree because they can't send schools overseas! My friend who works here also is moving to Thailand she has a sister over there and they have good pay and her husband and her are going to teach english for very good money. I don't blame her one bit.

4. Also when the new company purchased MoO apparently they
said they would not be outsourcing or closing this plant. I know the other day I accidently picked up a Sunday Oregonian instead of a Statesman newspaper as I have been looking for a job since January. I got home and wow,look at all the jobs! OOPS, then I went back and got the Statesman, not much in the way of employment in Idaho right now with so many businesses cutting and/or leaving. I was just shocked at our little tiny employment section compared to Portland area.

5. globalisation
what a con. absolute freedom of movement for capital, as much restriction as possible on movement of workers. coporations will continue to move their workforce to the next cheapest place until the people make them stop. we all desrve better than this.
