I got interviewed for the evening news today
while I was at a rally to raise the minimum wage. I am sure I sounded like a complete ass.

I always get interviewed at these things if I bring my kids. I guess they are photogenic. Oh well, if I sucked completely, maybe they will leave me out of the broadcast, or just show pictures of the adorable children.

1. all you need is a cogent 12 second sound bite
15-20 words strung together is all they'll use

I bet you did just fine!!!

2. I hope so.
I did talk a bit about my own small business and how I thought the change would affect us.

5. The reporter also asked me questions like:
Do you know anyone who supports a family on minimum wage? Me: um, no, not really. Him: Is it hard to raise kids in today's world? Me: Um, well, we are doing ok, but I want everyone to have the same opportunities I have had. Him: Um, ok.

I dunno, I felt like an ass. I guess he was looking for a struggling single mom, and I wasn't really fitting the bill. I did get a couple of good licks in on the admin and their tax policies :)

4. all you need
as was already said is a quick soundbite. i thought british news was crap for substance, but when they show abc news at about 2am on british telly it seems very rare that they show more than one or two sentences when asking people's views.

6. True.
Hopefully it's not the one or two stupid sentences :)

7. Was it a FOX station?
If so, I'd anticipate your statements being conveniently edited and strung together. Something like ...

"Loving - Bush - Is - The - Best - Minimum - Wage!"

8. It was!
Usually the local affiliates are not as biased, although I never watch the local news, so how would I know.

9. Been there, done that.
20 min of discussion with reporter, six seconds of T.V. It was a good six seconds though.
