The response to the "culture of life" argument is Depleted Uranium
This is having devastating effects on Iraqi children and probably American children too. I know its been discussed on this board, but I honestly think the average one issue voter doesn't know about it. And I think that pictures of children affected by DU are more powerful than anything the pro-life groups could bring up.

Bush = death to children

1. You're right
I did a public access TV show a couple of months ago on depleted uranium. It's devastating. And it just keeps on killing.

2. We are killing the next branches of the (human) family tree.
Here's a web site (***CONTAINS GRAPHIC PICTURES***) showing some of the extreme birth defects as a result of depleted uranium.

My local chapter of the VFP teamed up with the Concord Grass Roots Coalitiion & put together a presentation about depleted uranium. Some of these pictures are part of our table display.

3. DU Parents' choice: show these pics to YOUR kids or risk them enlisting.
These are absolutely horrifying pictures; and note that one of them is a photo of a deformed child born to a US vet of first Iraq war. I have posted this several times in response to other threads, but I am sick at heart every time I read someone on DU post that they have a son or daughter or niece or nephew who is in or scheduled to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. They are very worried and say they wish that young person had not enlisted, but "he(or she) was 18 (or 19, or 20) and made up his (her) own mind. They often say the kid did it to get money for college. Well, 18-20 year olds DO make up their own minds, but their decisions are based on the totality of information they have acquired on the issue. So teach your children well in advance of the slick PR the Pentagon & it's lying recruiters throw in their faces. Show them the horror of war in general and of this Iraq war in particular. To many kids, war is a combination of a "reality" TV show and a violent video game.

If you think your 12 year old cannot handle looking at pictures of dead, dying and wounded soldiers and civilians, then you are protecting them from reality in such a manner that they are sitting ducks for recruiters. I'd rather have my kids upset by reality than have them brought back into the country via Dover Air Base in a casket. My kids were 9, 12 & 14 when the US left Vietnam. They had seen the coverage on the news every night. They knew their beloved uncle would have gone to Canada had he not gotten lucky in the draft lottery. As adults they KNOW what wars are like and they know what the term "cannon fodder" refers to. So should every 12 year old in the US today.

Dead soldiers don't get to go to college; they don't even get an honorary, posthumous degree carved onto their grave marker. The tens of thousands of severely, physically wounded young vets will be spending their lives in rehab, wheelchairs, following a seeing eye dog around - not playing frisbee on some college campus. Granted, some severely wounded vets like Max Clelland have led very productive, meaningful lives. But read his book - and have your teenagers read his book - to learn the daily physical and mental suffering of a multiple amputee. Many people with such terrible losses become drug addicts, or alcoholics or commit suicide.

5. Vets in wheelchairs? .... not if Buschco have their way.

Only the lucky ones who have someone to help. In the interests of "small government" Bushco are making it harder and harder for injured vets to access proper treatment or equipment.
