SYDNEY, Australia Australian cheerleaders won't be able to bare their midriffs anymore.

Cheerleading officials have decided to ban the display of skin because they say it may encourage eating disorders.

A top official for Gymnastics Australia says cheerleaders often perform in front of family groups. Nerine Cooper tells a Sydney newspaper the organization doesn't want girls to "feel under pressure to lose weight" because of their uniforms.

But the head of a promotional dance organization calls the ban "ridiculous" and unfair.

2. Um,...maybe they should start w/the advertising industry
as opposed to those emulating what they see.

3. Perhaps
it might be wise to dress them head to toe in long, shapeless black shifts and perhaps put some sort of headdress or something over their luxurious, shiny, bouncy hair? Wouldn't want those in the audience to feel forced to go out and buy hair care products to get shiny locks just like those dancin' girls. :sarcasm:

4. I think covering up midriffs won't do a thing about eating disorders...
Advertising and media will take motivate them to starve.

But, I think it is smart for Junior High and High School girls -- their world is over-sexed -- the music, TV, dating...

I think a bit of modesty is a good idea.

7. Huh?
I am a little afraid to ask, but, um -- are you saying that Dads only attend high school sporting events so they can salivate over the midriffs of 13- to 17-year-old girls?

10. I'm not trying to date them for crissakes
It's just a fact that todays 16-18 year olds are pretty much fully developed women (physically speaking). Any man that isn't dead from the waist down knows what I'm talking about.

12. Maybe the midriffs would encourage exercise
Situps and crunches. And good eating habits.

What an absurd decision.
