Scariest and most disgusting coroner's report ever...
There was an accident at a farm here in NE Ohio this past wednesday.
A tire service was changing a six foot tractor tire when it exploded. The impact sent the farmer's son to the hospital with a serious concussion, but the 24 year old mechanic sadly was killed instantly.

Today the coroner released a statement citing cause of death:
"blunt cranio-cerebral trauma with evacuation of cranial contents".

I'm sure now...I could never be a paramedic.

2. That also happened near here, not long ago.
Old john deere type rims, tubes often leaking calcium, tend to rust through. The tire changing guy, careless because of long experience, over pressures the tire to seat it and the rim splits, not really exploding, but allowing the tire to grow in width, suddenly-explosively, catching the inattentive tech. In this case, crushing the guy's chest. He, too, was young, mid 20s, with children, working a low paying job, and no safety cage.

3. i grew up working on the farm and heard plenty of those storys.
i remember the storys about tires "exploding" while being mounted. but in this case, it'd be a better way to go out than, say caught in a spinning PTO shaft or grain auger. there's some terrible ways to go in that line of work, and i've been plenty close to some of em, been crushed between equipment, been electocuted standing in a pile of wet silage, some scary stuff looking back on it.

6. I met a feller once who had been changing a tire on a semi.
The thing blew up and threw him across the parking lot. He lost his arm. I chatted with him in the doctor's waiting room in the late 70's.
Next to us was a young blind man. That poor guy was out mowing his lawn, ran out of gas, went to refill and poured gasoline onto his hot mower engine. Poof. Blind.

I learned quite a few lessons that day.
