Our car broke down last week, this is an excellent time to start riding the bus.

15. They are adding a max train just a few blocks from my new apartment

right through the transit center, where I can catch 6 different buses. :)
the whole main st area is being revamped, residence, shopping and working all within walking distance. It's great! :bounce:

7. Stay home more... consolidate errands.

When my daughter got her driver's license, I let her take over most of the driving. I donated the old car when she bought her own hybrid, so I don't have a car at all anymore.

Now I consolidate all of my shopping and errands into one day approximately every two weeks and borrow her car, leaving her with a full tank of gas in return. It works out very nicely for both of us.

....about the fact that people are buying less SUVs and trucks. Makes me feel safer when I drive my small car with less of those things on the road. Now, if only we could take some of that extra money and use it for the common good rather than to pay oil company CEO's pensions.

I used to take a taxi home maybe once every two weeks when I went grocery shopping. Now I'm taking the subway instead. I'm making an effort to buy veggies from the local farmer's market as well. They're a lot cheaper and fresher too.

in my Jetta tdi. 45 mpg. I'm paying almost a dollar more for biodiesel than petrodiesel, but I feel a little cleaner about driving. But today I walked anyway.

I would only buy a car if I could run on alternative. I live in d/t Denver and have minimal need for a car. Now working at home will make it easier yet.

I've never owned a car, and have no plans to do so. If I need to do a big shop, I plan it, get a friend to go with me, pay for gas.

I walk, go to the farmer's market, live close to everything. It's easier here.

I have been paying 3.50 gallon for biodiesel made from used vegie oil since I bought a VW Golf TDI right after Bush was reselected. I had to do something!

I've tried to find work closer to home, but no one seems to want to pay anything more than $5.15 an hour.

....then we moved to the UK, bought a small Fiat that gets 45 mpg and drive it about once or twice a week. We walk to shops and we take the train when we can.
