US oil imports
Per the DOE site as of 2/06, the following are our top five oil importers, in order of how many barrels per day we import (in thousands)

CANADA----------2,249
MEXICO----------1,878
VENEZUELA-------1,472
SAUDI ARABIA----1,451
NIGERIA---------1,377
all others approx. 3,000 thousand bpd

Which puts this article into perspective:

Militants in Nigeria's Niger Delta have threatened a new wave of attacks on oil facilities that could start April 25.

The Nigerian newspaper This Day reported Thursday that Ijaw militants are again threatening to attack oil companies and production facilities in the Niger Delta.

Earlier this week, the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta guerrillas, responsible for the attacks that previously caused a 25 percent cut in Nigeria's crude oil production, said that they would launch fresh attacks on oil companies in the Niger Delta region.

The guerrillas said the attacks were their response to a meeting last week convened by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to resolve the crisis in the delta.

Militant attacks there have already shut down more than 550,000 barrels per day of Nigeria's 2.7 million barrels per day output, leading to dissension in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries over how to cover the cartel's shortfalls.

Dust off your bikes guys.

2. Kevin Phillips mentions this in American Theocracy.
He mentions that Centcom says they're now going to run more carrier missions up and down the west coast of Africa, and a big reason is that the US believes that, down the road, the US might be getting 50% of its imports (IIRC) from Nigeria.

Incidentally, he also mentions that in 1998 (IIRC) US oil imports (as % of total US consumption) crossed the 50% threshold for the (IIRC) first time. He suggests that that's a good explanation for the huge energy company donations to George W. Bush (he got more money from energy cos than they gave to ALL candidates in '92 and '96 together, IIRC) and it explains the tone of US foreign policy of late.

Everyone should read American Theocracy.
