i drove by a shopping center where different government offices are renting space. i noticed a sign i had never seen there before. it reads "COMMUNITY CONTROL". What, i wonder, is, COMMUNITY CONTROL?

i ALSO WONDER, IS MY IMAGINATION RUNNING WILD WITH ME IF I IMAGINE THAT IT MIGHT BE SOME SORT OF RUSSIAN STYLE SPY-AND-SNITCH-ON-THE-COMMUNITY NETWORK?

i am simply baffled!

but seeing you were a memeber of the paramoid brigade, I have no idea of what community id being controlled, so it is mighty difficult to speculate.

In Broward County Florida it would mean something like this for example:

The Department's mission is to reduce crime and create safer communities through alternatives to incarceration that provide a comprehensive continuum of custodial and community-based programs, treatment and active supervision. neighbors spying on neighbors and snitching to the government on them ... my mind conjured up the possibility that something like this was happening right here and that community control was the place where informants went to tell on their neighbors. is that crazy or what?

Or perhaps it's a community mediation group, or some such. Or it could be a Home Owner's Association, a water board, an urban sprawl reg. board, a Neighborhood Crime Watch central command, an Anti-Discrimination league, Zoning Board?--hell, it could even be Animal Control for all you know. Stop in and ASK before you let your mind wander into the silly putty.
