Blaming Iraqi 'ingrates' for the mess of our making
http://pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/opinion/columnists/guests/s_443848.html

At last, there's consensus on who's to blame for the mess in Iraq: the Iraqis!

From the beginning, there were ominous signs that the Iraqis weren't going to play the game right. More than a few neocon hearts were broken by the Iraqi refusal to greet us with flowers and champagne as we marched into Baghdad, and the snub still hurts.

Just recently, Daniel Pipes, president of the Middle East Forum and an unrepentant hawk, complained about "the ingratitude of the Iraqis for the extraordinary favor we gave them: to release them from the bondage of Saddam Hussein's tyranny."

What really rankles most politicos these days is the Iraqis' refusal to get cracking on the formation of a multiethnic government. Four months after the elections, Iraqi factions still haven't come up with a power-sharing arrangement that satisfies all constituencies. snip

The "after all we've done for you!" theme is more than a little jarring, coming as it does from the architects of the war. The Iraqis didn't beg us to invade their country. We invaded Iraq for reasons quite unrelated to the welfare of the Iraqi people (and, it turned out, for reasons unrelated to the welfare of the American people as well).

1. Blame the victims is always a good fallback position.

If those goddamned Iraqis can't see all the wonderful things we've done for their country, well hell with 'em. Let 'em stew in their own juices.

I find it ironic that the Neocons have such strong altruistic feelings for the Iraqis. I see no similar regard on their part for the wants and desires of the American people.

4. No regard for people in New Orleans drowning in sewage, either.
Or for old people in wheelchairs sitting in the Louisiana sun with no water or medicine for three and half days.

Some *sshole fundy woman said the same crap about Iraqi ingratitude to my poor liberal mother a year ago. Upchuck.

2. No, they didn't ask us to come and kill their children, their wives and
old folks. They didn't beg us to bomb their country back to the Middle Ages. They didn't plead with us to destroy their infrastructure, their heritage, their utilities systems, their schools. So why in the hell would ANYONE ever have the guts to insinuate that they are being ungrateful?

3. My good Christian mother thinks we should just pull out our troops...
...and nuke the whole country because the Iraqis won't behave themselves and they have terrible lives anyway.

Go figure.

6. See, that is what I cannot understand. What I will never understand.
People that profess to believe in all the teachings of Christ, i.e. compassion, love, forgiveness, turn the other cheek, do not lie, covet, disrespect you parents, kill, etc. have no problem, none at all, about the mass murder of people who never did a damn thing to us. We caused them harm, we brought them death and destruction. They are fighting back, just exactly like we would.

How can they justify themselves and their thinking? I will never get it.

7. Bill O’Reilly has them and many other elderly and ignorant people...
...convinced that the Iraqis are responsible for 9-11. Yep, true story.

8. Sad, so very sad. My Mom knows better to even try to defend bush**.
She did it once and I almost lost my mind. But today she agreed he nothing but a liar. Anyway, that's what she said to me. Maybe she just figures it's best not to say anything. Although I'll bet the cuts in some of the benefits that she got because she was on Social Security might have something to do with it.

5. We "liberated" them and only scores of thousands of Iraqis died.
What's their problem? Get with the program, people.

:sarcasm:
